I have an HP nx6110 with a power-on BIOS password. I have followed the maintenance instructions as listed in the service guide to remove the password. I have left the RTC battery disconnected for a number of days before applying power (mains only, no battery or RTC battery). However, the BIOS password still remains.

Does anyone have any further suggestions?

A similar question was asked for a dell BIOS password recently (https://www.technibble.com/forums/threads/dell-bios-password.65007/). If that doesn't give you any ideas, I'd say try shorting out the CMOS battery (which is to say take the battery out and use a metallic object to create a connection between the positive and negative ends of the battery socket) for about a minute. This should drain any capacitor that is holding a charge on the circuit.

Just to be clear you used the following steps.

1.2Resetting the Computer
If the computer you are servicing has an unknown password, follow these steps to clear the password. These steps also clear CMOS:
1.Prepare the computer for disassembly (refer to Section 6.3, “Preparing the Computer for Disassembly,” for more information).
2.Remove the real-time clock (RTC) battery (refer to
Section 6.18, “RTC Battery,” for more information on removing and replacing the RTC battery).
3.Wait approximately 5 minutes.
4.Replace the RTC battery and reassemble the computer.
5.Connect AC power to the computer. Do not reinsert any battery packs at this time.
6.Turn on the computer.
All passwords and all CMOS settings have been cleared.

Note that if they upgraded the BIOS that may have changed things.

Have you tried to boot from another bootable media?
