New client has Pavilian dv8305us laptop with seriously damaged display screen. Keyboard has damaged keys also.

Display part number: 403796-001 17” WSXGA+ TFT, single lamp with bright view
I found the parts at HP’s web site as well as their prices.

I found parts at the www.sparepartswarehouse.com also.

This job will be an insurance claim so I am looking for advice.

Can anyone recommend a reliable source for the parts?

Should I go with the original HP parts or are compatible parts OK to use?
Thanks in advance:)

If it's going to be paid out by an insurance claim I would go with the HP parts. I've never had a problem with aftermarket but I feel more comfortable with original parts. If the customer is trying to stay in some kind of budget I will us aftermarket if they agree to it but I almost always try to go with original.

Ebay. Just look at the feedback. After a time you will develop a list of good sellers who have quality parts. There are other sources as well but they are generally too expensive.

What are aftermarket laptop parts? You either are using an HP part, either new, pull, refurbished, or whatever....but it will be an HP part. The only exception may be the LCD, but with that you generally want to buy based on the model of the screen instead of the brand/model of the laptop. It's not like HP manufacturers their own screens (or hard drives or optical drives...etc).
There's really no reason to feel more or less comfortable as long as the part is compatible with the laptop.

I second eBay. Screens are FAR less through some of the good vendors and they're the same parts. Other parts you can find for far less than you can through HP, as well.
