My client have PC,he have some problem in his system..He is not able to boot his system..I have changed all the parts except motherboard,so my doubt is abt motherboard?I wanna check the motherboard to know whether it is in working condition or not?

Use known good parts in the board...that's really the only way you can test a board that you suspect is bad.

Check for leaking capacitors. Set BIOS back to factory settings. Check for burnt components on the motherboard. Rule out peripherals by unplugging them. Change CMOS battery if it won't keep time or save settings. There's not much more you can do.

hi all,
I see it went way above your heads, ofcourse I know how to check caps and what the bios/cmos are, I was just imagining what the OP's next qustions would be.

actually i have a pci card that that gives me pre OS hand off codes should it not fully boot to OS. its simply called PC analyzer. i bought it at the local PC shop. works great.

This PC analyzer card you speak of. Do you actually find it of any use? I got one but junked it as it was rubbish. Never told me what was up and I found I could diagnose better myself. Thought it might have saved me time, but after trying 3 or 4 times it was useless on all attempts. Do the codes lead you to 100% know what the fault is? Interested on more comments as maybe I was too quick to judge.

Yes I find it useful. Yes it flashes codes on a digital read out and should it hang it will display a two digit code then I look the code up in the code book.

Yeah, I have one too. I rarely use it because I find it rarely gives me information I can actually use to fix the problem. The infamous "C1" error is handy to know if something is up with your RAM, however. It may be more handy for those without parts to test & swap with I guess. Some code's I've gotten weren't even in the book, you can google them but most of the leads go blank.

Thats pretty mush what I found also. I maybe should have tested it more, but I found it of little use. I find it interesting that Dominic suggests he finds it useful however. Shame I binned mine so quick, wouldn't mind trying it again now as a just in case. Annoying when you start to doubt yourself, lol.
