Honestly, I'd work on anything I have the ability to work on. The odd 2000, ME, PowerPC is super rare these days and XP isn't rocket science to work with either.
If I can buy spare parts, diagnose a software issue, and know what I'm looking at then by all means it's repairable.
I'd still insist on upgrading without being pushy about it though.
