I just got my business off the ground, FINALLY!!! On average, how many jobs do you do a week? How many in a busy and slow week? How many are jobs for businesses? Im pretty psyched and ready to start working!! Thanks guys.

I'm not a very good indicator because I have a day job. I average a couple jobs per week. Most are for private parties. I've only had one job for a business.

On a slow week I do about 7-9 calls, busy side is 20-22

I like around 13-15 - keeps me buys but not running crazy

How are you marketing to get 20 jobs a week? We want about 5 clients a day depending on what job is. I 'd like to be making $500 a day or more.

im interested as well Holzster, what methods of advertising are you using in your area to generate that volume? We are hoping to develop a steady flow of 10 calls per week minimum which seems to be about what you are hitting.:)

2-3 jobs per week, I work evenings and weekends only since my full-time job keeps me busy during daylight hours. Good luck with your business! :)

Man,
I would love to generate enough volume to make this my full time job, luckily for me though, it is only something to fill in my spare time. I love repairing PC's but would really like to get involved in web design. As Bryce said, you can generate passive income through web hosting which is a great idea.
I generally get 2-5 jobs a week, I definitely couldn't live off it at the moment.
I have picked up some corporate jobs though, I was lucky to fix up the home PC's of a well known Scottish restaurant owner here and he said he will use me to upgrade the systems at the restaurant, which is a great score.

I have tried almost all marketing techniques. I have posted befre what I did (I think) so if this sounds familiar I am sorry.

First the biggest - I joined 2 local chambers & I go to ALL the networking events including all the new ribbon cuttings. Going to these & word of mouth from them give me 80-90% of my business. BUT I did not get a call for 2 months from them - so you have to stick it out in the beginning. I also give 10% off all chamber members for there business & home machines for there employees, this gives me good word of mouth.

Next - I give a free class once a month on various topics from beginning to advance.

Lastly I send out thank you cards to all new clients with a couple of business card magnets & 2-3 - 10% off all services coupons inside. They use them but also most of the time they give then to friends to use.

Yellow Books never worked for me & have yet to break even (tried 5 times in different books). Mailers also never worked did not break even at any time (tried 6 different mailers in different areas)

One thing I did create that worked was a card (5.5" X 8.5") of just my name & number at the top of each side (my name was small) but the card was filled with Windows keyboard short cuts. I see people grabbing them all the time. I go to the homes & it is sitting right next to the computer.

Terrific idea. Where do you hand them out at?

That is a great idea to make a postcard with tips on it for a "saver" card.

I want to join our chamber of commerce but wonder if we'll do well there. We are terrible at going to meetings! Hate to go!

Is it worth it to have a telephone directory ad at all? They're so EXPENSIVE!!!! Why does it cost so much? Is it good to at least have a small listing to be in the Yellow pages?

In my experience, Yellow Page and BT phone book are not worth the money. I know alot of other people who will say the same aswell. The computing sections are so saturated that the chances of you being picked are slim. I put an advert in the yellow pages 2 years ago and so far I've had 1 customer from it :p I would say put your money to better use (the local rag is my method of choice atm).

we actually put common windows shortcuts on the back of our business cards for the same reason;)

For me, the Yellow Pages (I have 2 small ads) are the only thing that has paid for itself. Mailers, BNI Networking Group, and others were just a waste. I have spent over $10,000 that should have gone into our "buy a house" fund.

But I should say that I've only gotten home clients from the yellow pages. I haven't gotten a single business client (My main focus) from the yellow pages.

Do a good job for everyone and they'll tell others. Word of mouth is the best and least expensive advertising you can do.

Just a question, how many leads do you guys get from your web pages?

Tim
