How best to rip, keep & watch DVD movies at home and on the road?

To those in the US... Have you considered....

Have you noticed those programs that are mentioned here AFAIK are hosted /distributed in countries other than the US for a reason

Copyright law in the US is a mess for multiple reasons. Until we can find a case of someone actually being prosecuted (and losing) for ripping DVD's, CD's etc that they legally own, most of us are probably going to keep doing it.

I'd be okay with this law if since what we're really buying is a "license" to consume the media, should the physical disk get damaged, lost, or stolen, the publisher was obligated to send a replacement copy of the media for the cost of the media and postage (~$1). My main motivation (other than convenience) in ripping disks is to keep them safe from my kids.

I was not condemning any one. Just tossing out the " US legalities" . I used to do it all the time but I am content with my streaming content on Netflix, Amazon and Hulu now. I honestly belive the DCMA is wrong on this issue but the US laws cant control out of country developers from making it possible for anyone to do it. So in this type of instance the law is useless.

Back on topic .....Rip away.....

Another media - I purchased GTA IV and after only a month the disc ripped apart on its own. So I used key and downloaded pirated version, If distributors cannot keep quality standards.

...I've never been able to rip a DVD, let alone a CD. But I did rip a phone book in half........but I was much, much, much younger and stronger then. :p

Sorry, had to say it. ;):):D
