Hospitals hit by Ransomware attack

In ransomware incidents such as these, there's always talk of "hackers" and "targetted attacks", when the much more likely scenario is that systems were simply not secure enough and someone opened an infected email attachment

“What’s most important for us is that we are certain that we have kicked the criminals out of our system, and that we have eliminated all ransomware from those systems, so we are clean and we are sterile before we switch things back on,” he told 3AW’s Neil Mitchell.
Read as: "Were running a malware scan on all the computers right now, using MalwareBytes and all the free anti-malware tools we can find".

There was almost certainly no criminals *in* the system. I would place bets on the origin being an email attachment opened by a member of staff, most likely logged in with a user account that has been granted admin privileges.
