Help with first time server support.

The office has the one server, one W7 and two XP workstations and a few laser printers. Since they already have the server, they might as well use it as intended.

I think that at a minimum, it should be used for file and application services. The only apps are quickbooks Pro, wordperfect and MS office. As far as system and data backup, I'll recommend Acronis.

I'll keep you all posted.

Yeah you got probably 3 grand in labor coming your way....2 grand minimum, plus hardware 'n software licenses.

You're gonna have fun there ! Which makes me wonder, on a project like that, would it be a good idea to bill in stages for that? I ask because I wouldn't want to complete all that and then have problems getting paid for it. Especially if half way through, the boss started giving you grief. Maybe it's not a big deal.

I gave the client a guesstimate of 1k while he was in his car traveling somewhere in the U.S. plus:

  1. Any additional purchased software and hardware such as Acronis and a backup hard drive for the server and the same for any clients they want configured for internal disaster recovery.
  2. Any off site disaster recovery setup.
  3. Any temporary system and data access setup while the permanent server/client system is being re-built.
Considering they are a new client, I do agree it would be wise to get paid in stages.

I told him I'd write up and present a formal proposal with the current invoice.
