Help! How to Increase Local Residential Customers?

For those who are not doing adwords or not doing a whole lot of adwords, you should really reconsider. We probably spend about $750 a month on adwords and it accounts for over half of our customers each month, which comes around $15000 to $20000 of revenue each month and that is just from Google. Of course, it helps to have a good website, tons of great reviews and a good staff answering the phone. The rest of our business mostly comes from referrals and other various advertising outlets.

You spend $750 and get $15,000-$20,000 from adwords? or Did you mean $1,500-$2,000..which would be extremely good ROI for out industry.

I shamefully spent 3k\month last year from Jan - May and the only thing I have to show is lower balance in the bank account. With ROI like your getting, I would have liked to hire you as a consultant, because the consultant I hired certainly didn't get me a ROI.

No I did not misquote. We do 30k+ gross each month at our main store and over half of our business is from adwords.

EDIT: Ok maybe a misquoted a little. I just looked and while adwords still makes up about half of out business, referrals have increased significantly and has dropped that percentage some. Regardless, adwords and Google plus reviews are doing very well for us. Our other store on the other hand is located in a small strip mall and it's business is mostly driven by referrals and walk-ins.

I dont mean to get off topic here, but PCX you should consider being a adwords consultant vs trying to expand into the server\network business. (or do both) You could help all small businesses setup and mange adwords, low stress all profit....my type of gig.

We tried to do adwords and our market is just too small for adwords. If we try to target local SEO kws, it won't run the campaigns saying "not enough searches". We even expanded to our County which has about 120,000 people. Still not enough searches for our kws. To pay for clicks from clients 30+ miles away from us makes no sense at all. We considered the local adwords (forget what they call it now) but it doesn't allow for negative kws and without those we'll get killed on irrelevant clicks. I'm not sure how to run a good adwords campaign in a small market of 120k. Seems Google just wants suckers that don't understand PPC is all I can figure. I've seen a few competitors try local adword listings but they don't last long. Not sure when Google started the "not enough search" volume to prevent campaigns on low hanging fruit. I've done enough PPC to know the importance of targeting your audience and running a good negative kw list.

I wish I could say that it is because of my expertise. I think it is solely due to demographics. Around here, the average age is 22, which means that many would be surprised to find out that there are those who still use the phone book . . . I'm sure many of them don't even know what a cassette tape looks like . . .

If your having issues in a small market or small population area and want help with online marketing let me know.

I live in an area with 8 competitors all 10 plus years in business and with a population of 25k withing a 15 mile radius so a small area indeed. We easily find new business and I am one of if not the most expensive for services in our market and we have no issues getting average customers to pay. Our biggest competitor is OfficeMax and Office Depot which advertise on local TV and Radio and I still have no issue bringing in 20 plus new customers a month for Virus removal alone.

If you are wanting help let me know. I use Local Search Optimization, SEO, PPC, and Facebook and Social advertising with huge success.

Best of luck to you either way.
