Hard Drive problems

Hey everyone, I have a problem that happened to my laptop 120GB hard drive (Fujitsu). Basically I did something wrong during swapping it out with my XP hard drive and now my 120GB hard drive only shows it is 78GB. I am at a loss because I ended up completely wiping the hard drive with DBAN. I have looked all over the net for a fix and have not found one. I completely reinstalled Vista but no luck. If anyone can help I would greatly appreciate it. I am using Vista Ultimate and besides moving a little slow before I corrupted something, it was working fine. Thanks in advance:rolleyes:

Hi JJsMom...you can go to bootdisk.com and find files you need to create a boot disk (for example:Win98startup on cd to use fdisk) to access your partition or use a partition manager, there are several free ones on the intraweb as well as some paid versions. Either way you have options...

Well looks like that did not help I guess my 40 plus gigs are lost. Actually I lost it when I used partition magic, obviously Vista does not like that program. Oh well such as MS life.

You may want to give SystemRescueCD a try.

I don't have enough posts to include a URL yet, but you can Google SystemRescueCD and get the link.

It's worked some wonders for me from time to time.

linux

Have you tried running a linux live cd , or even better Hirens ultimate boot cd ( can be found in the usual places) It's a disk of nothing but boot and hd partitioner's and formatters and so many tools oh my .

You said you swapped out the drive.

Check the jumper settings on the drive.

There's often an arbitrary limit like "Limit drive capacity to 32 gigs."

It's a shot in the dark.

I agree with Mike... Though I don't use Hirens I do often use Knoppix (Linux) or UBCD4Win with great results. I had the same thing happen to me about a year ago and I hit it with one of the HD tools in UBCD4Win (Sorry, I don't remember which one) and it came out great.
