Well was coming home after picking up my two girls. Was on a turnoff near my home, a car was in front. The driver moved off as if she was going to turn left into road. I briefly looked right for oncoming traffic and was leaving intersection. Then suddenly she stopped as I looked in front again BANG, right in the rear.

I checked my children all ok pulled over and checked on driver she was ,was just a little shocked . I have a pain in my left hand side of my torso, might be strained muscle I guess.

I said am extremely sorry but stated " you had started out why did you stop so suddenly "

She said she noted a car speeding on the overpass in our direction" We both did have ample time to turn out as other car was at a distance on the right. We exchanged details, I have comprehensive car insurance she has none.

The damage to her car was her rear bumper had become loose, looks like a broken clip. Mine is more extensive, bonnet fubar won't shut and bent and front bumper totalled.

Grrrr

I did the exact same thing to a BT van, they are speed limited so he decided to play it safe at the last minute. Still my fault at the end of the day, I should have checked but I just assumed he had gone. Nice man though, all very civil.

Glad the kids are okay, hopefully your torso pain isn't anything too serious.

Coincidentally, me too. Though not a van but an unmarked BT rep's car.

It's easily done, but I was beating myself up about it afterwards for not looking back to check the car had moved off before pulling out. You live and learn. That was over 20 years ago. Thankfully, it's my one and only 'at fault' accident.

Mmm... is that common knowledge or what? Didn't know BT vans were speed limited?

I didn't know either but I certainly do now. It would explain why they are always late to fix things.. That and all the nibblers on here who crash into them.

I've done this too on a roundabout. Always double check the coast is clear now before I even attempt to turn. Hope you side is ok and that the car repair bill is covered by the insurance.

If not all of them, there's a few insurers now who will cover you if you happen to have an altercation with someone who's not insured.

I've done the exact same thing. Two of us turning right, the pickup in front of me started to roll and I looked left to see if I could go too, when he stopped short. Rear-ended him with my van. Thankfully it was low speed and given the difference in height, I hit his box hitch. Didn't do any damage at all to him (he was real cool about it) but punched an almost perfectly square hole into my front bumper.

I read that at first as "he was real cool about it, but then punched an almost perfectly square hole into my front bumper.", to which I thought "that's not cool at all ... and how friggin' hard were his fists!?" ... then I re-read it and realised what you meant. :D

Never did this myself, but had this happen to me.

Back when I was still in college, a woman rear ended me getting on an on ramp to the highway. There were cars in both lanes very close to where the ramp traffic merged with the highway (no merge lane, you merge directly into traffic) so I stopped. The woman was behind me stopped. A car was just passing us and I inched just a bit forward to turn and look to make sure that all of the oncoming traffic had passed. She drove right into the back of me.

I get out of the car ******, because I'm already nearly late for a final exam and I just got wrecked into. She got out of the car looking very upset, looked on the verge of tears. Another person stopped to ask if we needed help, or the police... I think a road worker. I looked at her and she said "I'm so sorry a few times". I felt bad for her and after looking at my car a few times and not really seeing any damage I decided to just let it go and left. She awkwardly put her hand on my shoulder... and I'm "Just be more careful next time". Then I got in my car and went speeding down the highway to get my final in time.

BANGED her right in the rear, eh? Must have been a rough read end banging since you pulled a torso muscle. I guess I'd be shocked too if someone just banged my rear out of the blue too! Especially if they had a couple kids with them too!!

Hahha, now that's just a bit weird:eek:. Well went and got a quote at a local auto shop, gonna be @ least $AU2,000.

The Damage -

I need to pay excess fee of 600.00 [just payed my friggin rego]
Bonnet
Locking mechanism in bonnet [currently tied down to tow points]
Both Front Guards
Bumper
Clip on Headlight broken
Front slightly pushed in, very minimal

My rating 1 goes down from awesome to mid newb rating 3. So if I try to avoid other morons on roads in two years back to Awesome rating 1, kinda sucks but no-one was hurt. The lady whom I had the question with actually just called me just before. She said her husband just clipped her rear bumper back into place, so she wasn't going to worry about any further action. I said well my car is quite damaged so I needed to report a claim. All is good though, asked if she was ok and all fine.

Presuming you were making a left-turn-on red being you drive on the left side of the road... similar to how we make right-turns on red and drive on the right side.

With all due respect, you are the one at fault here. At least you would be if you were in the United States; specifically, your negligence not watching the vehicle in front of you caused you to not notice it had stopped suddenly, and you hit the driver in front.

Sorry about your damage... just hope the driver doesn't sue you for too much and/or that your insurance company settles any claims on your behalf within your policy limits to limit any future liability you may have.

In my accident last January, a gal eating her Chicken failed to yield and T-Boned me HARD. Although fault in my case is not disputed, I have still NOT recovered for my property damage, personal injury, or lost wages. At this point, I am owed about $17,000 more, which I haven't received.

GEICO is being a bunch of jackasses having 1) not fixed my car properly 2) not honored their shop's warranty for crappy work 3) offered about $1125 to compensate me for $7,000 diminished of value, 3) paid no medical bills whatsoever though I paid (out of pocket), and 4) Have not paid for any pain/suffering 5) Have unlicensed adjusters 6) Hired their own appraiser to dispute mine... theirs has an FBI criminal record for something unknown 7) Liked about appraiser licencing... there is no such thing except for auto damage adjuster licencing (they write auto body estimates). 8) screwed up some of the filing for a supplement and it ended up on my Lexis Nexus report, so if I apply for insurance my rates are higher.

It is just a Bad-Faith auto insurance company.

That seems like a high deductible... Make sure your car is checked on a frame machine as well as alignment... it is pretty important.

Make sure the paintwork matches completely including any metal flake/pearl as well as the Orangepeal... Make sure nothing gets in the paint like dust, eye lashes, etc. Ensure it is not blotchy or uneven, etc. Check to make sure it is properly clear coated. and that the shine matches the rest of the car. Make sure they painted the INSIDE of the bonnet and fenders (guards) too.

When you get it back check that the bonnet latches properly and the sprayer nozzles work. Verify your headlight alignment! Check all the clips on the bonnet sound insulation pad underneath are present. Check all the wheel-wells ... make sure all clips are present, too! Demand only OE replacement parts no aftermarket.

$2000 AU is too cheap for this kind of repair. That's only $1500 USD... that's like enough to hang two aftermarket fenders and paint them... For OE fenders you would be at $1800. Add $900 for a bumper plus paint work on it $2900. Add about $300 for a headlight and alignment/ install that's like $3200. Add around $1000 for an unpainted bonnet and figure $500 to paint it on both sides... abought $1000 to straighten front... and about $300 for that locking mechanism.

You would be at about $6000 USD minimum... I would think your repairs should be more like $8000au

My car's been hit three times, but only once did it receive any kind of damage. First time was in a parking garage during Christmas time at a mall. Some very, very elderly fella pulled up and stopped at a stop sign. I pulled up and stopped behind him. After about 15 seconds of doing nothing, he puts his car in reverse and rolls back and hits my car. Me and my brother just go "wtf??" and he takes off lol.

Then on my very first day of living in Louisiana, while my car is parked in a hotel lot outside my room, apparently some lady in a far-too-big-for-her pickup truck backs out of a spot and slams into the side of my car, causing a massive dent right above the left rear wheel. Not damage that affected anything, so its still like that today, but looks like crap and I get mad about it every time I see it.

Third time I got rear ended at a stop light. The light had just turned green and I think she was on her phone so didn't pay attention that we hadn't moved yet since a pedestrian was crossing in front of the lane we were in. Was very slow speed, caused no damage to either vehicle, but it shocked me how violently it threw me about in my seat. Was a bit stiff the rest of the day in my back muscles but went away by the next morning.

So I'm very thankful nothing serious has happened. Have had this car for about 12 years now :D and still going strong, and still paying low premiums for insurance :D :D
