OK, here's the story... I purchased my HP laptop while travelling through Colombia. It's an AMD 8 processor 4gb RAM that had windows 8 and had a 500 mb independent video card (not sure which). It was working fine for a few months but right as I was leaving the city in which I purchased it, the hard drive stopped working properly. Not sure what happened but it wouldn't even start up windows. So unfortunately because I left the city where I purchased it and had thrown out the receipt and any documents I had with it (mistake, I know), I couldn't get it repaired under warranty. So I went to a computer repair shop in a different city still in Colombia and they reformatted my HD. It didn't need to be replaced luckily but unfortunately they installed windows 7 instead of 8. I continued travelling and went to a different town. However, I tried installing and playing some games that had worked fine on my laptop before and now they wouldn't start. Various error messages but all clearly graphics or driver problems. So I updated all the drivers and installed all the windows updates but the problem remained. I looked all over the internet and nothing seemed to work. So I looked in the device manager to see what video card I had in order to search for more specific problems and there is only the 'standard VGA graphics adapter'.
So the first thing is I want to be completely sure that the graphics card isn't there before I make any unfounded claims. How can I be 100% sure that it's not some other issue like a detection issue or something?
Second question: What do you think I can do in this situation? I can go back to that shop (though it'd be a pain in the ass) and see what they'd have to say but if they did indeed steal my graphics card, they'll likely deny it. Is there any way to prove that I did indeed have an independent graphics card? The Colombian police will likely be useless in this situation.
Any thoughts are appreciated!
Thanks in advance!
