Through EPIC Games, Grand Theft Auto V is free through the 21st.

I cannot believe I am going to say this, but for some reason it is 94 GB in size, lol. Suddenly my 100 Mbps Internet is too slow being this will take about two hours.

Soooo..corona virus ppl need to virtually steal cars now?

Yes... That and they want everyone to love Grand Theft Auto 5 because in a few weeks they are releasing version 6. Obviously, they intend to use this to sell that.

It's been forever since I've played a modern game. 100GB is freaking insane. Even at my speeds its taking for freaking ever!

Look on the bright side, in 3 more days, you can free up 94Gb's on your drive.

Oh well. The f*cker wouldn't install. The stupid launcher ran into an "unspecified error" and refused to launch the game. This is why I don't play modern games. It's too much work to get them working and then memorize all the controls for the limited fun it provides. I've only got about 30 minutes if I'm lucky to play a game. It takes longer than that to memorize the controls and get through the stupid cut-scenes. Then when you come back to it 3 months later you basically gotta start over.

My son installed this the other day. A 94GB download is insane! I tried playing Fortnite on my system while it was downloading. Instead of about 25ms ping I was getting 100 - 250ms. Needless to say I didn't do well on that match.

I'm intrigued and thinking about trying it. What is fun about this game? When I watch him he's just scooting around in a car.

GTA V is so much more than car theft... Single or multiplayer, there's a TON of game in there.

Oh, and for those of you that wander into GTA Online... never forget your Resource Monitor!

You see, if you join GTA Online, you'll be stuffed into a world full of people, and a good number of them are probably cheating. Playing privately is possible, but also disables a fair bit of the online content. To get around this... alt-tab out of GTA V, open task manager, hit the process tab, open Resource Monitor...

On the CPU tab, find GTAV's exe in the list, right click.. suspend. Wait 10-15 seconds, right click resume.

Alt-tab back in and stare in amazement as everyone else in your online session magically goes offline. Enjoy some quiet time... it'll fill up again later, just do it again. Honestly, this dance is why my friends and I stopped playing the game... it gets old.

But the game itself? I mean come on... you can run around shooting things... cause massive traffic jams on the freeways with trucks and busses... then blow up the grid lock with a grenade launcher. You can break into a military base and steal an F-16... One of the multiplayer heists actually relies on 4 people which includes a sequence of escape where you all have to steal said jets and fight off the air force to escape... and before you ask... yes... Rockstar licensed Danger Zone so it can play while you're doing it...

Or you can get a super car and see how fast you can make the loop around the island.

THAT is GTA V, if you can avoid the hackers / cheaters / douche-nozzles online anyway.

But buy it on Steam please... only the most idiotic of morons would be silly enough to subject themselves to the nightmare that is the Epic Launcher. It's an old game, it's cheap... and it'll be in the Summer sale soon enough.

What is this doing? Is it making their servers think you're offline so it stops interactions with other players?

Destiny 2 recently became free. It also is a 94 GB download. It has a moderate single player campaign but the big draw is multi-player. Even in single player there are other players "playing through" the server. Was weird for me. I'm used to online multiplayer or single player. Never see the blending of the two. My daughter lives in another city so we game together on Destiny 2 now and then.

It forces the client to desync, which directs you into a new shard. Which your friends can then join.

@PBComputer, I have an uncle that looks way too much like Trevor... cracks me up every time.

Yes I played - completed and loved it even modded it when I got bored. I even put my business sign on a billboard lol.

I HATE games... Such a PITA to install. Honestly, a Windows install would be less B.S.

First I had to go to the website and register for an account THEN setup two-factor authentication. Then I needed the Epic Games Launcher installed, which apparently is a glorified download manger.

... After a 94 GB download, I went to run the game but found it nowhere installed, so I opened said launcher, and now it is installing Rockstar Games Launcher. That tells me it is installing DirectX, which makes no fucking sense because I run Windows 10, which is absolutely the MOST up-to-date It can get without joining a Windows Insider program.

Then I got some game data error.

Tried again, and now it is installing some Rockstar Social Club account thing, which NOW needs another account to play Grand Theft Auto V.

Kids today are bloody stupid to put up with this crap when they actually PAY for a computer game. This is Dodgy as hell!

...

Then I find out my Epic Games account is NOT the same as my Rockstar Social Club account, which I need to create! This is AFTER I go through numerous CAPTCHAS and about give up on selecting buses and cross-walks only to be eventually determined to be human.

Okay, so I register a new account and pick out crosswalks, traffic lights, and buses this time around... Verify my Email Address.

Then I am asked numerous questions about my Rockstar profile as if it is the same as Facebook. Not sure what they mean "post to my walk, etc." I just set everything to be the most private!

Then it is verify my email address again...

Next, I had to Link my Rockstar Social Club account with my Epic Games account profiles.

Next we have questions about cloud saves...

I think the game MIGHT be working now in that it appears to have launched.

@NETWizz sane kids got GTAV on Steam... and all of that was automated properly.

Epic's Launcher is a joke of biblical proportions, Chinese backed spyware to boot. The darned thing doesn't work correctly half the time without admin rights... the list goes on.

I think Origin at launch was more stable... and that's saying something.

I'd rather fight the Bethesda Launcher... and that's saying more.
