Grand Opening

Like I mentioned in another thread, I am in the process of moving my computer service business from my home to a retail location. I would like to put on some kind of Grand Opening to let the world know we exist. Any ideas on what sorts of things we can do or giveaway to make it as appealing and successful as possible? Thanks!

Custom mousepads? They'll never forget who to call when they have computer issues when your advertising on their desk!

Pens with your business info (website, phone, etc) on it?

Coupons?

//Not sure about prices on mouse pads / pens just throwing out ideas
///Goodluck!

Well you need to have some grand opening specials. Better yet have like a bring in your computer day!!! Give their computer a quick look over or something, suggest some software, or even do some type of free training on using a computer, free tools to manage/edit photos, etc etc.....

We have just opened our shop and we mailed out 1000 postcards to the surrounding area offering a free diagnostic check up on 1 machine per postcard.

My brother in law is doing this too. He is using banners. I have suggested trifolds. There is a local guy who does this. He has trifolds everywhere.

We also do some printouts that we change weekly. When a customer comments positively on something we note it to keep it or repeat it in the next printout.

In addition to normal ads and banners we put stuff like this where customers usually end up standing around:

that corkboard is just above my head when I sit down with a client, so they are forced to read it when they are talking to me.

that is near the area where customers stand while we test a machine in front of them. Often when waiting for a boot or something to end they will turn their head and read those hangers on the cabinet.

for a grand opening you need a combined marketing effort:
- add on local radio
- add in local papers
- flyers, posters
- mail-out (email and snail-mail)

have fun :)

One store I worked at, we moved locations and had a grand reopening. We had the radio station come out to our shop and do a live broadcast with gifts and a sale. They brought a game wheel that you could spin for a prize. The radio station was giving away a couple prizes on it, and we had a couple gift certs for our shop, some hardware. We had a drawing for the grand prize which was a computer. We did the drawing on the air. We had food and drinks there as well. The place was pretty busy and some people hang around for a long time because of the events.

How did the radio station find out about your grand opening? Did you send them a press release? Did they charge you for coming out to your location? Were the prizes things from the radio station themselves? Thanks for your help; this type of thing is what I was picturing in my head for our Grand Opening.

We paid them to come out. I don't remember what my boss paid though. We provided all the computer type prizes, but they had some prizes of their own.

Have a cookout. Free hotdogs. Old school and effective. The first people that should know you're there is the people around you.

I can't wait to open my own storefront. Hot Dogs and soda. 25% off Scavenger Hunt (in the store). Popular game Tournament (either pc or console, most console geeks are pc geeks to some degree anyways), I once had the idea to hire like the Spiderman or Captain America (similar popular kids character). I just want it to be busy as can be, and fun at the same time. Hire a couple of one day helpers (maybe some friends for extra cash) and just have fun talking to all your potential customers.

Edit: Of course some of this could be quite expensive. This is just kinda my wish list. :)

Has anyone tried the custom mouse pads? Was it worth the money?

This is an excellent idea. What other types of grand opening specials should I offer? Have any of you tried anything that worked particularly well?

How well did that work for you? Have a lot of people come in as a result of the postcard?

Great idea. What sorts of things have you added to the printouts that have worked well?

Excellent idea! The positioning of these is very important.

Has anybody tried a huge marketing push like this where you do everything all at once? How well did it work overall? Were certain aspects more successful over some of the others?

So far we have one customer who has come in with a postcard so the rate of return isnt looking good at this point but that may change ...of course as otehrs have pointed out in a different thread our website wasnt so great either so that may not have helped

How long ago did you send out the postcard? Was there an expiration date on the offer?

Could you post a picture of here for us to look at and possibly help you improve it for future mailings?

I want to order flash drives with my business name on it. I think they make excellent giveaways for potential clients!

I'm trying to find the cheapest marketing company right now. Often they want you to order a mimimum of 50 of them at one time, still looking but a good idea nonetheless-:)
