So a client calls me and leaves a voicemail at the end of the day, and leaves no details. I was dreading calling him back because he lives about 45 minutes away from me and I installed a couple AP's for him over a year ago, a job which I probably shouldn't have taken given how for out of my normal range he was. He was a fellow member with my local BNI chapter when I was involved in it and he turned out to be a bit a of a strange dude.

So I call him back not knowing what to expect and to my surprise the Wireless is working perfectly he just wanted to know what sort of offsite backup solutions I recommended. So I gave him a couple options and he wanted me to install one for him so we setup an appointment for the following day.

"But that's not the main reason why I called you."

OK?

He explains that he recently got involved in this small group of 'Entrepreneurs' and he wanted to see if it was something I wanted to get 'Involved' in because he knew that I was an 'Ambitious' and 'Motivated' 'Entrepreneur' 'Eager' to learn how to further 'Succeed' in my personal and business life.

He wanted to tell me that they were putting on a seminar free later in the week and he wanted me to come. I told him to email me some information about these Entrepreneurs he's joined up with and he steered me towards their website which he encouraged me to sign up for the guest membership for 30-days which lead to "Tuition" at $5400.

I do some googling and everything that comes up looks like brainwashed people, chanting and yelling at seminars, lavish vacations where people are dancing and having a great time after a seminar. Typical culty, creepy, seminar crap.

I felt like he was holding me hostage because he was trying to guilt me into coming to his seminar by buying something from me. So I told him no.

Had a customer try this with me once I have not done any more work for them.

I'm not getting sucked into a scheme just because they did

That's it, right there. Don't let the door hit you on the way out!

Probably Multi Level Marketing / Pyramid Schemes

Exactly. Many years ago, newly married, young and not so smart, my wife and I went to a "meeting" a coworker of her's suggested we attend. all about running your own business. Prior to that he gave us a motivational tape (yes, this was back in the days of cassette tapes) which was somewhat motivating. All along not one mention of the company.

So we go to the meeting in a large auditorium, almost had that old school tent revival feeling to it. Still no mention of the name. We're not so enthralled but her friend convinces us to try some products so we get diapers since our daughter had just been born, which leaked like a sieve. We then find out it's Amway. LOL!!!

My sister got heavily involved in Amway, Hobbytex, After Dark, Garden Gurus, Lucy's Lingerie, Avon, HomeCare, Mary Kay, Nutrimetics and a dozen or so others.
After 35 years of being involved with these companies she is now living on a pension in a Commission Flat, barely making ends meet.
They were not the "get rich quick" businesses she thought they were.

The only one she made good money from was selling "adult products" but she couldn't put up with the sleazy weirdo's any longer. She stuck with it for 5 years and then gave it up.

Went with my mom to some of those meetings when I was a kid. We had a few of those products at home as well.

To be fair some of their products weren't too bad, we bought a few different ones. As I mentioned the diapers were truly horrible. Some of the cleaning products were pretty decent.

Ugh, if I get even the slightest hint that something is an MLM scheme, my face becomes so obviously disgusted with that person that they usually start sweating or shut up pretty quickly. No matter how brainwashed you are, some small part of you must know that at its core it's just a scheme and you'll need to con people into it! I'm in a BNI group, and it's a step to the right of that MLM line. Even though I wouldn't consider it MLM, it certainly attracts those types. Fortunately they are easy to spot.

I have enough disdain for overbearing salesmen, but am nice enough to let them know I'm not interested in a kind manner. MLM / Pyramid buy-in? Yeah, you can F right the F outta here pal.

Where they waiving signs that said "You Gotta Be here!" lmao

Because I had some friends from high school try and get me into that crap and it just didn't work for me. No way!
