Google domain registration services now available to all in the U.S.

Is this for domain registration only, or is there an element of hosting involved, too? From your Techspot link:
Pricing is fairly typical, starting at $12 per month. Google will provide you with the domain name alongside private registration, support for up to 100 subdomains, domain forwarding and email forwarding to Gmail.

EDIT: Doesn't appear they're actually doing the hosting, but rather through their "partners". Name registration alone is $12 per year, not per month.
