Hi, I've been using these http://jaltronics.ca/images/sata-ide_2usb_01.jpg type of adapters for my ide drives with no problems, but with more and more sata's coming in now I find these, or at least mine to be more hit or miss with sata drives. I usually end up having to put the drive in my bench machine to get at the data. Anybody point me to a good sata to usb adapter???

I have a Apricorn 3 in 1 Adapter its like 4 years old and runs like a champ, only think I dislike is the power adapter it has kinda goofy to lug around. But for my shop repair I have my bench pc modified with the sata/pata cables on the out side for easy play.

Literally was just looking into buying a couple more of these yesterday. Monoprice.com and Newegg.com both have plenty of models to choose from. I think I'm just going to base it on reviews and spring for some of the popular models.

Thats why I posted, I'm hesitant to order another (I have 3) one of these types. I just had a customer buy one from a reputable online store and it didn't work. I used one of mine that looked the same and it did, but then my same adapter failed on another sata. I may look into one of the docks suggested.

Corbin is right, apricorn is really good. It's usb 2.0 so ...
It'll fit most everything... Just be aware that there are new connections all the time, now we have of course sata revision 1.0 (150 MB/s) 2.0 (300 MB/s) and 3.0 (600 MB/s) ** still not as fast as scsi @ 640 MB/s, and it can't sustain high speeds like scsi, but that's another story. Be aware of eSata, Sata, eSataP, micro Sata connectors, special Hot swappable sata connectors, etc. (some cables are hot/swap and others not b/c of a lack of pins...)

There are Sata to USB nice docking station with the SD CF cards reader integrated.

Just put the SATA bare drive to the small docking SATA docking socket.
The docking comes with a few USB connectors, 1 connects to the PC, the rest USB should be for the other USB devices as well.

A neat nice PC device for external device connections.

Hope this helps!

Yes I've got one with an e-sata connection to my desktop. Looks very nice just waiting a job to use it on. :)

When I consider getting a docking station I always end up back where I began with most docking stations having no means of connecting IDE drives. I have been looking around on newegg and I found this

I like the looks of it and may consider using it to achieve higher speeds when connecting. USB 2 can be so limiting so I want either esata or USB 3. Any thoughts on this style of adapter?
