OK, So I decided to try and setup my gmail account in windows live mail with win 7.

I have gone with a pop3 account setup.

I have entered in exactly the right information for the email properties for the account according to the google gmail instructions.

I have tried disabling avast home and downloading and running the gmail pop troubleshooter application.

The information gathered from that said "Negotiate SSL - Socket Error1. The remote host closed the connection".

This is the exact error I am getting everytime I try and send/receive.

Unable to send or receive messages for the Gmail (tfpcservices) account. Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity.

Server: 'pop.gmail.com'
Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x800CCC0F
Protocol: POP3
Port: 995
Secure(SSL): Yes

I have searched for over 2 hours now for a solution. I have tried everything I can think of.

The only other thing could be maybe the router maybe.
Anyone help with a billion BIPAC VOIP?

Regards,

Info looks good to me, try from a diff connection, if not possible try testing the outbound port by running something on port 995 at a diff location and connecting to it. Could try a packet sniffer like smsniff obviously you can't see any details since its SSL but you can probably get an idea if you are actually receiving anything.

It's been a while since I've set this up, but I seem to remember the need to enable pop3/IMAP within gmail's settings as well, from the web interface.

Did you enable pop in Gmail?

  1. Sign in to Gmail.
  2. Click the gear icon
  3. Click Forwarding and POP/IMAP and so on....

Also try using different app. There might be issue with Windows Live Mail

Regards,

Last time that I set up a Gmail account with an email client the first time I changed the settings through the web interface for some reason the POP settings weren't saved. It might be worth a couple of minutes of your time to recheck that everything is saved correctly.

why not imap. if you want to backup it up use mailstore.

i dont no if it makes a difference but those are the imap settings are pop the exact same?

Well I gave up using windows live for this.

I am now using pop peeper and it's working.

Not sure what's going on with windows live.

Thanks for all your suggestions guys.
