This week I found out I wanted to install GetDataBack on my personal machine and it said I had it installed on too many machines.
The reality is that it is only installed on another one but over the years, I have installed and uninstalled it after each use.

When I bought (at least 4 years ago), honestly, I was convinced I had paid for it and could use it commercially. Today I had to search the runtime.org using (site:runtime.org commercial) so I could find the information.

I contacted support to find out why I could not install it on my personal box and I was told my license is not for business use and that if I want to use it for business then the price is ~$849.

The cost is prohibitive considering I hardly do recoveries for clients and have mostly done recoveries for myself on several machines.

Anyway ... I am currently looking for something on the affordable side that can be used for commercial purposes.

Price is indeed important but I want to hear how you like what you use and what kind of success you've had. Thanks!

In the end I may have to pony up the money but in the meantime I'm searching and evaluating.

+1 for ddrescue. It's Linux based and free.

I recently used it to recover 2Tb of data from a drive that GetDataBack wouldn't recognise. It did take a long time (4 days) but it got there.
