Back in 2008 (late Fall) an Intel engineer spoke at my Church's Youth Group (don't remember what about) and afterwords I caught him before he got into his van to tell him I really liked his message (that I can't remember, haha).
We both talked Church for a while and in a few minutes we were talking about all kinds of random stuff. I told him I had a passion for computers (this was back when I worked for Alltek [now my competitor]) and he began to talk about his work at Intel.
He said that they had an operational 16-core processor developed, and if they invested more time into the project they could have had it ready for consumers within the end of the year. [btw, NOT a server processor]
Some developers at Intel were "why not release it now, and get a major leg up on AMD?". Their marketing and head developers replied "because the gaming crowd won't benefit from it".
The guy (haha, I probably forgot his name less than a week after he left) told me 'if the gamers don't need it- we hold on it' (to that regard).
If only politicians listened to people that well, haha.
But just a cool notion, how one group of people can really drive a market.
