I decided to download the latest version of VBox to my Windows 7 machine and ran its installer and right before it finished it tossed up the Critical error below:
Failed to create the VirtualBox COM object.
The application will now terminate.
Callee RC: E_NOINTERFACE (0x80004002)
Never seen this before.
Those with more experience than me probably already know what to do. After struggling through Oracle's forum, Microsoft and this forum, I couldn't find a solution. Then I came across the TechBlog and found this:
Go to Start and find the Oracle VM VirtualBox icon and right click. Go to Properties--Compatibility Tab. The box for "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" was unchecked and I clicked through all the modes and found that selecting "Windows Vista (Service Pack 2) was the only one that worked for me. The original answer was Windows XP (Service Pack 3) for a Vista Machine.
Hope this helps someone else out.
