Hi all,
This is my first day here and so whilst having to learn about starting up my business, I also have to learn about posting one here, so I have a double learning curve, so many apologies if this has been covered ( I have searched ).

I am starting up a local PC repair upgrade service aimed at the home user.
I have been reading posts on here for the last few weeks and am building up my arsenal of discs and tools. I have learned so much from here already and am greatful to everyone on here for that.

I am currently getting a logo anf A6 flyer designed and printed as my artistic knogledge is 0 !!

I have a client that will design the logo and the layout of the flyer with all the graphics but I have to supply the wording.

On the front of my flyer I will offer my services and on the back a top ten PC tips for the home user, so it looks as if i'm giving free information to the user to build up a trust with them.

This is where the problems start .....

I have been sat at the computer now for four hours and my mind is blank !

I have my serives as

Virus / Trojan / Spyware Removal
Fault finding and system analysis
Data Recovery (discretion assured for sensitive data)
Upgrades
Home networking setup
Streaming media to game consoles (X-box 360 & PS3)
Tuition for PC beginners
Remote services for regular customers

I have no wish to get involved in windows server as yet as I don't have the knowledge to confidently do this. I have just got an old dell poweredge 2800 to practice on for a year before taking that route, so for now it's just home PC's and networks.

Then I was going to offer a PC home tune for £24.99 that would cover all the basics from totally cleaning out the pc of all fluff and dirt, checking the hardware and scanning for virus and trojans. Check the registry, disc clean up, start up programs e.t.c

So, do you think it is a good idea to put a price on my flyer ?
Having read some posts here, there are people that say no, it's not a good idea. Also do you think the top ten tips, just simple things like, "remeber it's not a case of if you lose data, it's a case of when. Always back up" and links to say malwarebytes, free avg ... would I doing myself out of business doing this ??

All advice is welcome, thank you for reading, Cliff

Good post Cliff :)

Here are my thoughts.

On the front of your flyer, I would definately put some of your services. But only the main ones, such as virus and spyware removal, laptop repairs, diagnostics, home networking, data recovery etc. This is where a lot of your main income will come in, so direct your clients to this.

If you are particularly good at something, then shout about it. This could be virus related, laptops or new builds.

One thing you could also mention, is that you keep a full record of all work done, therefore the client builds up a system profile. But only mention this, if you do DO this. Read this, as I would keep a full record of any and ALL work completed. However immaterial it may seem, as it could bite you on the ass in the future.

On the tune up, personally I would offer this, but make it really noticeable on the flyer. Highlight it. Also I would consider a fee of £25 quite low, specially for London. You may want to think of increasing that figure.

Once you do have the pc's in for a tune up, then that is a really good time, to
a), make a note of the complete system in either a database, or another program.
b), upsell any additional hardware, ie memory, backups.
c) on the subject of backups, you could offer a external backup solution for them, or point them in the direction of the cloud.

Re the tips on the reverse, I would say yes, go for them. However do not mention links to mbam etc. You would be seriously doing yourself out of money. But even if you do give them the link, and or install it on their machine, a very small % of clients actually run the program!.

I used to install it on each machine, that came in the workshop, and even printed a guide, showing exactly how to update and run it. I would say around 2% of clients actually listened, and took notice. Now I don't bother, and always attempt to upsell SAS. (Become an affiliate of SAS ;)).

Thank you for a speedy reply. I have gone with the £24.99 to start with as to try to get a client base. I could do a £24.99 with this flyer offer as an alternative just to try to get the customers in. This would also seem like a personal offer as well.

Thanks for the tip on the database with their system spec, would never have thought of that.

You right about mbam as I always leave it on a pc when i've repaired it. six months later if I go back I see the database hasn't been updated since I put it on there !

I agree that using the flyer to make a special offer is a good idea. "£24.99 only available with this flyer".

Make sure you have a "call to action" like "Call now to make an appointment".
