Hey all, first post here under this account, other than the introduction.

just wondering if you could all review our latest flyer, this has already gone to print so unfortunately i know i'm gonna kick myself when you all have some good advice and it's too late for me to change the design, but still, we can learn from it for next time around.

it's a pdf file, it's around 3mb so i'll upload it and link it from here.

Thanks.

I like it, not too sure about the box truck on it. But, other than that very professional looking.

Thanks hext!

the plan is to get some freestanding DL size flyer holders, and then get them put up wherever i can around the local area, restuarants/shops/barbers/bingo halls/community centres etc etc. and i've been thinking about doing a mass door drop in a few local areas also. just trying to wittle the area's down, i plan to hit one or two at a time and see how the response is.

i've ordered around 5000 flyers, so theres quite a few options considering the area is relatively small.

Again thanks for the input, and if anyone has any other recomendations for distrubuting these flyers it would be appreciated.

i'm sure labour is spelt that way in britain, as apposed to the american spelling of labor.

thanks for pointing it out (and now i hope i'm right as they've already been printed!) LOL!

ProTechSupport: i use adobe illustrator for all my designs that need to goto print. if it's out of your price range or you feel it's not justified have a look for some open source alternative programs for vector design. i'll have a browse around if i find anything i'll get back to you.

Cheers for all the comments so far guys, i can't remove/amend anything now as the flyers have already gone to print, and should be despatched from the printers tomorow, but hey, it's my first real flyer design for myself so any feedback we can learn from for next time around. Out of curiosity why would you remove the truck image?

Nice stuff, I'd like to judge it by the size though- I don't know if this is a half A4- or business card size...so I don't know how to exactly judge it ;)

If it's half A4 then the letters are too big for my personal taste, but if the paper is a little smaller (1/4 A4) then it's excellent and very professional looking.

Also, the best open source vector editing program out there would have to be InkScape I once tried to "benchmark" it by using it for something that it's not made for and realized just how powerful it really is...I used it to make a website.

Using Inkscape + Scribus to make your flyers is a great way to make high quality, professional looking advertising without having to pay Adobe a red cent.

Thanks for the comments again all.

JosephLeo: it's DL size, 105x210mm, designed to be displayed landscaped.

thanks again for all the comments, i was hoping for more negative feedback though! (call me crazy... but i feel it'll just help improve things next time around)

:D I guess it's pretty good then. Maybe just make the font size A little smaller next time around. Also, you asked for comments, not criticism ;)

If you wanted critique then I would of say--

  • The blue you used will come out lighter than you think it will, remember to always check your CMYK settings.
  • I'm not sure about the sign on the truck- it looks a bit out of place on screen- on paper things become more obvious, so keep an eye out for that.
  • The "10% of all labour with this flyer" part might not show up as well as you wish it does- try a bolder font, or a white with a drop shadow instead.

Other than that- it's excellent...just keep in mind the blue might not show up how you want it so don't go blaming the print company if you can't see your fades and gradients perfectly ;)

Now thats more along the lines of what i was hoping for!

Thanks JosephLeo

I understand about the blue, my business cards were designed similar and printed by the same print company, i've had a screen proof beforehand and the blue actually appears a little darker on the printers proof than it does in my files. (unless that was part of the error correction service they have, once they arrive i'll take a look and see if they included any notes.)

The sign on the truck was a bit of an awkward one, the truck was just a royalty free vector that i used, the writing i tried to place on the truck as best i could. i've done a printout myself and it looks 'OK' (not great, not quite how i'd have liked) but i can live with it and chalk it up to experience and improve on it for the future.

Hopefully the 10% will show up! eek, but thanks for the tip. i'll bear it in mind.

I've read a few of your posts and understand your a former graphic designer so your input is much appreciated as i know it'll only help to better the process next time around.

p.s. i'll post my compliment slip designs before i send them to print! lol, that way i'll be able to amend it before sending it out.

i'll let everyone knows how the finished article looks when it arrives. scheduled for delivery on 29th.

Thanks again!
