I had two clients contact me for the same issue today. Their computer boots up and everything is fine then out after a minute or two the icons will disappear from the screen and the screen will turn either to grey or to whatever the background is (I'm not sure which it is because I am remoted in). The start bar remains fully functional. Both computers W7.
Additionally the mouse is unable to right click on the desktop. Right click on the start bar behaves normally.
When opening the task manager and watching it nothing out of the ordinary happens, in fact nothing happens prior to the screen blanking out.
As of shutting the computer down, right before the computer shuts down the icons briefly return in the shutdown process, indicating that something running in the background is causing the issue.
The fix is to either kill Emsisoft in the task manager or right click on it in the tray and shut it down. After shutting it down the blank screen is gone and the computer behaves normally, and the icons/right click return.
After shutting it down and re-opening it, oddly Emsisoft loads in Maximized mode (taking up the full screen). I click windowed mode and it is reduced in size and then I X out and close the application.
The issue appears to be resolved so far.
I think since Emsisoft when opened is opening in maximized mode that the computer is halfway loading Emsisoft in the background and being in maximized mode it covers the whole screen in a program that won't fully load and is essentially a dead window.
