eXpressTECH business card

Instead of just having your title as "Owner" you should maybe add another title that actually describes what your everyday duties consist of. Some examples could be Lead Technician, Project Manager, etc. This lets potentials clients know that you are more than somebody that holds shares in the company, and that you're actively involved in the day to day operations.

How about the new logo? I want to get some opinions on it before I go on to the actual card.

Ignore the extra white space.

Please take this as constructive criticism, but both of these designs just don’t portray the professionalism that I think you’re after. Find someone different to do your design work.

Same designer?

If you're serious about promoting your business, you may want to think about paying someone else to do the work properly.

One option is s 48hourslogo at around $100 for the logo design then DIY cards.

Its a minimal investment @ the profit from 2-3 jobs. After that you own the copy and its all gravy coming in...

But yeah - for a fact - the path you are going down is not working.

I am going to make one more major set of changes with my wife. It would destroy her if I picked another designer simply because I have no taste for design. Most of what you guys have told me about both designs she had already said. :)

I'm thinking keep the font. I like this font a lot. Take away the swooshy thing and move "Computer Services" under ExpressTech. I would -really- like a symbol of some kind. Even just a power symbol. I think of it as a kind of stamp to use when I can't use my entire logo in certain situations such as a favicon.

Any ideas or information based on this?

Thanks in advance

Yes:

1) re-read this entire thread
2) if you get your wife to design it again, make sure that you're not around

maybe just me but the logo remind me of a 1950's lawnmower repair center

Just let you're wife know you don't like the designs, it may hurt her feelings for a little, but it's better to be truthful to her than to not be, and hurt your business in the process, then change it and tell her everything and hurt her even more then.

I have a second designer working with my wife and gave them full control over it. I gave them very vague ideas of what I wanted so they wouldn't try to take any bad ideas I have and make them work.

I've heard some wonderful ideas coming from the two about many things I had not even considered. They are cruising this thread along with the forums in general to gain ideas.

Thank you all for the help. I will post the the result of my new business card when it is finished. :D

Designers aren't known for their ability to wear both both the designer hat and marketing hat despite the fact that it's all graphic design has become - visual marketing. I think I understand exactly what your problems are and none have anything to do with the skill level of your wife because, like most designers, she is probably working off what you tell her you want. Unfortunately, you have no idea what you want or the reasons to have a graphically artistic business card in the first place. If you're having this much trouble, may as well just use a b-card with black ariel font on white 40lbs paper with the basic info.

The only reason to have fancy graphics and color is because they lend themselves to the entire design, or big picture. Start with a color scheme. Play around, test out some colors. Your wife should know complimentary colors well and should help you pick something decent. Once the color scheme is fleshed out, then you can begin picking the right font. Once font is chosen, you can move on to finding the right logo or idea that represents your company the way you want it to. and keep building and building.

Once your wife has all that information, it will be much much easier for her to whip up 5-10 designs in under an hour for you to bring to us.

Don't forget that once those selections have been made they must remain universal. Website, business cards, marketing materials all must be consistent if you want to get anything out of this branding, because that's essentially what you're doing.
