Excel 2016 stopped working

Excel 2016 stopped working it closes and does same thing again when opened

It’s an onsite job so not so easy to fix if it was in the shop

I removed 3 com add INS and it seemed OK but had to go back

I changed default printer, did all updates then did a full Office repair I did not realize it would have to be reactivated

The only person who knew 0365 account password to reactivate it was in China and it was 3 am there

I told him to keep using Excel in safe mode it seems to be OK.

It's set for anything that is saved in documents get put into Onedrive maybe opening files from Onedrive is causing the problem.
 
Still stumped on this it does it with word and excel crashes program

Also does it in excel and word safe mode I know it will be something simply but not simply when you don’t know

I told him to try it with internet disconnected but I don't think it will help as One drive is copied to
his hard drive

This has been an ongoing thing for about 2 months
I was thinking of doing a reset or refresh then installing office from his O365 login
there is not much on this computer so it will be easy to setup.

I don't see many people doing the reset or refresh instead always doing a clean install on this forum is there a reason for that

Did you try to remove the files from the Onedrive folder? I'm not totally sure, but I think i had one user with that problem awhile ago, and storing the files in another folder fixed it.
 
Thanks good idea, I will try that I hate having to do a reinstall on a business computer on site.

Anything in his docs folder gets replicated to his One Drive. it must be a setting somewhere


One other thing comes to mind when he tried to setup Outlook for exchange it did not complete password or something not right so he setup another exchange account and is using that
the first account he setup does not work keeps popping up in Outlook asking for credentials
I tried deleting that account but it said it was primary account and could not be deleted until other account was deleted
He was not happy with me deleting his working account with all his emails so I left it, I told him it would populate again when recreated
I was wondering if this could be the problem.

I think a better idea would be to create a new user see how that works setup his exchange
keep him happy this way I don't have to delete anything until he see's it all there and working
