End of an era

So I think it is time. I have been putting it off for a long time, but now, it is time. Almost 6 years ago, I purchased my Toshiba as a gaming laptop. It worked great for a long time, but it is finally telling me it's time is up. Until recently, I have never had to do maintenance on it. Now, my keys are dying on me one, by one. On the number pad, the zero does not work, or the enter key. My right shift key stopped working yesterday. Which is very hard to get used to using the left key. I have to backspace a lot to redo it.

Last week, I looked and realized I did something I would get on any customer for. My hard drive was 90% full. No wonder it has been acting up software wise. Fixed that, got it down to 50%. I realized it has been 4 years since I nuked it, which for all the crap I put my computer through, is a new personal best. I know this is for the best. I know it is way past time. I know that when I play games on my next computer, it will be 10 times better than this thing that has a max RAM of 4GB. I know in the end I will be better off. I know all the arguments I make to customers when I make them face this same thing.

So why is it I really don't want to do it? Any other technicians keep fighting this until the bitter end? Or am I the only one, LOL.

Eh yeah I do that with my laptops..until they're on the floor gasping for breath. Which my current Lenovo is right around now..it's been dropped and smashed too many times.

Dunno what I want to replace her with...a Thinkpad T440s or a CarbonX1

Personally, I like my Desktop for gaming. The last 2 laptops were work issued.

Personally, my number 1 choice is the Dell Latitude e4200. Only 2 pounds for a 12 inch laptop. It's only Intel Core 2 Duo, but it's a great travelers laptop. My Desktop at home is my baby.

Personally, my number 1 choice is the Dell Latitude e4200. Only 2 pounds for a 12 inch laptop. It's only Intel Core 2 Duo, but it's a great travelers laptop. My Desktop at home is my baby.

I know, I should use a desktop for gaming. So many reasons, first of many though is upgrade-ability. I have also been told that over time, gaming is very bad for laptops. My first laptop lasted 2 1/2 years. This guy though is at 6 years, which to me sounds worth it, no matter how reluctant I am to give it up. However, I just have one computer, and I like to do work at my local breakfast restaurant over coffee & strawberry waffles. If it weren't for that, I would get a desktop, and use it for gaming and document work type of stuff, and use my tab for anything else.

LOL I had a pavillion that weighed 20 lbs and I could not cut the cord with that thing. When the hinges got so lose the screen would slam shut I picked up a brass drawer hinge with a wing nut on it and put it on the side to hold it up!! people thought it was so cool it attracted so much attention at the coffee shop!

I keep my Desktop up to date, as I do intensive stuff like 3D modeling/rendering as well as gaming. My laptop I've done a few upgrades to over the last few years, but its a Thinkpad T61, so quite old by this point. Its having random slowness issues that I can't seem to rid myself of, and am beginning to suspect a chipset issue (apparently my particular model tends to have issues with the nvidia chip).

I've been thinking of doing the Thinkpad W530. Particularly the one with the full HD screen and built-in color calibration sensor. Then I can actually get away from my desktop for some of the stuff I do.
