Can anyone recommend a good spam filter for business use? I have recently migrated a business from hosted email to an SBS 2003 Exchange server, and one of the drawbacks has been an increase in spam, since the webhost's filter is no longer in use.

I was thinking of maybe some kind of linux standalone box or something?

The company I work for uses http://www.peertopeer.net/pricingbiz.htm for our clients which I think we quote at 40 a month or so. I will probably use the same services for my own clients when my company is fully operational.

All DNS records are pointed to the peertopeer servers which filters all spam before hitting the exchange box. The only spam that can go through would be spam directly attacking the IP of the exchange box.

Spamassassin is a free ware app many the products you buy for businesses are repackaged distributions of this and it is quite good if your lookin for a seperate hardware solution.

We use USInternet at work. Their spam filter called, securance is $25 a month for the entire domain. Their prices could have changed but thats what we pay. Here's a link to their securance spam filtering.

hosted solution - appriver works good, but I don't know the cost involved.
inhouse solution (hardware) - IMHO nothing beats a Barracuda box.
inhouse solution (software) - I'm partial to Trends products, which can be installed directly on your SBS server. "CSM for SMB" by Trend Micro will get you AV protection and spam filtering all in one package. If you already have an AV program installed, you can look at their standalone spam products.

Good luck.

Yes Barracuda Networks is one of the top spam filter solutions and is a good one. Just weight your options for DIY vs Commercial and Software vs Hardware and so forth.
