downloading speed from routing

i recently got a router and i did all the needed forwarding things, i have a 300k internet conection and i was dl fine before the router and now i cant get it to download faster. supposedly its becouse i have my upload speed in unlimited so anyone know wut i should set it to or how to fix this problem?

What brand/model number is the router?
Also, have you tried downloading from another source? The download can only come down as fast as the source server can give it to you.
