Had a client today from another retirement village rang me at 9:30am. Had an issue with computer would not start - issue was

Very vague,

"I pressed a task bar now nothing".
WTF.......?

" Windows could not complete the installation. To install Windows on this computer restart the installation"

Said I was was pretty much booked out for the day - but am passing there so will check it out.

[This was the call]Client had stated that a Task bar came up and she pressed yes, hmm. I explained to her that a task bar only displays if you initiate commands for it to or a trojan in your boot sector. I also asked her if was it counting down as if to shut down, she said no...]

I called aroud there onsite for about 15 minutes, thoughhad to goto another business client at this point so I reset the system into safe mode with cmd and stated " Dont touch it I will be back in an hour". This needs some time to run through [client already knew I was just passing through as well and would be back].

I came back from other client and another lady was in the room messing around with computer. Oh you must be the computer guy. Oh I used to repair my own computers lalalahha, I couldnt enter the BIOS on her laptop but entered recovery mode but it failed. YOU WHAT!!! So now she has lost all her data and now need to install from 0

To me initially it looked like she had inadvertently gone into the Compaq recovery mode. As is a Presario CQ41 and just clicked next next

Don't know was not there, maybe run a data recovery using the magic of the gods. She tried to enter BIOS but only followed onscreen prompts - for sys checks etc - not F10 sigh

Have restored system now though data was lost, not my problem. Had to reinstall o/s, now the calls for why isnt x here or y o_O

Got to love all the "tech savvy" hacks out there. We had a lady call that we did a clean-out two weeks ago ring our phone. My computer won't come up, you were the last one to turn it off when I left the shop as I went on vacation. Just came back and it won't even boot. She had her "tech savvy" nephew look at it and he thinks you guys damaged it. We've heard this story a thousand times. Told her nothing we can do over the phone so bring it in and we'll check it out.

She pops in 5 minutes before closing, our clerks know after the years of hearing us to pop batteries, pull power cord, hold down power button for 30 seconds, put in battery, plug in and try to turn it on. Sure enough it pops up Windows is installing updates. The lady then says yeah it was at about 30% complete the last time I left the computer (of course she forgot she told us we were the last ones to turn it off) so the clerk said was it plugged into an outlet to make sure the battery would die? Oh I need to do that? I never did that before you worked on it.

I'm beginning to think all customers are story tellers.

LOL - just another person who has it ingrained into themselves that anything and everything that happens is someone else's fault.

Sorry, I mean after the incident occurred when you arrived onsite.

lol no she stated this and that then left quickly..thanks might as well left a grenade as well:eek:

lol, all good in the end called me a magiciano_O got it back the same day, as managed to fit it in with everything else. Customer lost data but now her system is running fine and her precious games are all reinstalled and saves and reinstalled programs - email etc. She is elderly so spose they don't have much else to do but play solitaire etc. I only charged 70.00 even though I attempted data recovery [over 4 hrs] with no success as data was corrupted and also setup a backup solution.

I like to take care of seniors as kinda feel for them in there situation, especially as this retirement village in the lower economic sector.
