Does anyone on here play older/retro games on a plasma TV?

You know how older game systems like SNES, NES, and Sega Genesis sometimes had a section of the screen dedicated to scores and stats?

Well, I'm thinking about getting a plasma TV and I'm concerned that that section might cause a permanent burn in if a games has been playing for 2-3+ hours straight.

I was just curious if anyone on here had that kind of setup and if you've experienced any type of permanent burn in on a newer (2007+) plasma TV.

I have seen it at my day job. we have a screen that displays a news channel for most of the day and the logo is slightly burnt in. The tv is a sony from mid 2008.

Its not so much that you would notice it really and we ran a video test pattern a while back over the course of a few weekends and it got rid of most of it.

I do, I never had any type of image burn. I have a SNES, Sega Genesis, N64 and Dreamcast hooked up to a 42" plasma for the past 3 years and it's still running strong.

I just re-read your post again and i don't think you'll have any issues. 2-3 hours wouldn't cause any damage. Its a long term static image that will do the damage. Like i said our tv at work displays the same news channel almost 24/7 for the last two years and couple of good runs with the video test pattern cleared up most of it.

Can I get the make and model Joe?

And how long do your normal gaming sessions last?

Thanks!

I don't know the model number off hand, and to look it up I'll have to take the thing off of the wall mount. But, I do know that it's a Panasonic Viera. My gaming sessions last anywhere from 20 minutes to 2 hours, depending on what I'm playing, how much free time I have and how well I am into the game.

For example, Mortal Kombat will get about 30 minutes of play time from me, but Super Mario 64 will easily get an hour. But, if I'm pressed for time then I will only play for about 20 minutes.

I did a little investigating and noticed that a number of people recommend getting a plasma TV which has a "game mode". The game mode typically reduces the brightness of the screen which mitigates the potential for burn in.

The Panasonic website seems to corroborate this advice, mentioning that reducing brightness can be a help (although they state that such an issue will likely not arise unless you leave an image on for an extremely long period of time).
