Do you like getting advice about your business? If yes then where do you like to get it from?

I don't for the most part I'm stubborn, stuck in my ways and only take advice with proof or a firm believing that it will work for me.

Absolutely. A good business owner doesn't pass up the opportunity to try something new. Even if the owner has a proven method. No one says they have to change, but it is ignorant to simply ignore the advice. A good business owner will look at the new idea from several angles and see if it is worth trying. Those narrow minded companies that are not even open to suggestion will ultimately fail or at the very least, never be as good as they could have been

Remember, no matter how good you are, there is always someone better.

This is the main reason I couldn't stand working for anyone anymore. I had tons of ideas that I shared with prior employers. They were rejected for the sole reason that they weren't the ones who came up with it. They felt I was challenging their position and authority.

I've had ideas that I thought were great, until members here pointed out the flaws or the perceived image I would portray. Two things I've learned here that are extremely important when it comes to new ideas. One is how will this affect the bottom line, and two is to look at it from the customer's point of view, how will they perceive it?

I only like to get advice about my business if I'm asking for advice, I prefer not to have people offer it if I'm not asking, but that's just me. :o

Ok seeing more going to yes. Where do you go for this advice on your business in forums, internet, people who have done it, school?

I don't understand. If you, yourself, are in the No category:

You're not looking for advice, yourself, and have repeated that elsewhere. What difference does it make to you where anyone else goes for it?

I think asking "Why do you ask?" is just as relevant. The question is vague and closed to either "yes or no" instead of open with a third "it depends" option.
You can't expect people to grab their ankles for you just because you ask them to. By not answering, you leave others to continue questioning motive.
My guess is so much advice had been pushed over the last couple of days and people have balked at its presentation. You don't want advice but seem to want to justify your continued advice to others.

Again, why do you ask?

I'd agree. If I didn't like getting advice from people, I certainly wouldn't solicit advice to others. Unless I thought my ideas were superior....

That's not the original question. The question was 'Do you like getting advice about your business?'

Of course, I don't mind you adding an additional question if I can ask you an additional question. Your question is where. My question is why do you want to know where if you don't like getting advice? I'll answer your secondary question if you answer mine.

It was my first post and was intended to be the question I just wanted people to be able to type out their desired path rather than just pick from choices in the pole like internet, mentor, etc.

Guess its not that I don't like advice but that I'm stubborn and its hard to get through to me, because of this I will find myself disregarding ideas without all the facts and other bad habits of the sort. Your turn

I get most of my advice from here on TN. Resources are very little out there for a local computer repair startup. I take some ideas from the places I used to work. As far as repair work goes, that's from my own experience from the past 15 years. The business end is where I was weak in, this site has invaluable advice. That's why I discourage a close minded attitude here. Some of the ideas and advice here are phenomenal. Others have that 'seed' that I can take and further develop on my own into something great. It's also a great community to run ideas by and get feedback.

No matter how good I think my idea is, I will run in by the techs here, in most cases. If I get positive feedback on it, I use it, if not I try and save it by asking suggestions. If it still has negative responses, I drop it like a sticky keyboard.

EDIT: See, communication works better when it's not just one sided.

148 views and 11 actually answered the question, really?

You realize it's not 148 people, but 148 views, as in, someone can view the thread more than once, right? Combined with the fact that topics that may interest you don't necessarily interest others. Talk about a bad case of narcissism...

Hmmmm. Makes ya wonder doesn't it. I'm personally not going to answer the question until I find out how much you're paying each of us to write your book for you. I'll PM you my lawyers fax number so you can send over the contract.
