We updated from an older version and it seems now that @fabs Autobackup7pro just does bookmarks and not the whole chrome profile. Am I correct in this?

I believe Google have locked down their profiles so it's no longer possible to migrate them. We can do bookmarks and that's about it. If you try to migrate the whole profile, Chrome complains about corruption and just resets everything. They want you to do the cloud sync thing and lock you into their ecosystem.

Firefox is looking good these days...

Yes Chrome is now encrypting the profile if you move to a new computer the hash is wrong and the profile is locked out. It’s to prevent malware from accessing the data. Unfortunately that blocks 3rd party access as well.

I thought the older version was still doing it, but must not have been

Chrome also removed the password import feature a few versions back. You can still export saved passwords... but you can't import that file back again on a new machine.

Pretty much as said above - they want everyone using cloud sync instead.

Its not a question of FABS. it’s which version of chrome. I think version 80 started encrypting the profile.
I understand that. About the same time google started encrypting profiles was when we started using the new version of FABs, just a coincidence.

as to google cloud sync, I saw a chrome instance using our cable provider email address domain as a google account. I did not know they did that, like MS does for accounts

Not a coincidence @fabs updated the program when chrome made the changes. Reading his release notes is how I found out about the new encryption.

You save passwords in your browser?:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

I've been warned about Chrome profiles being reset after a transfer. In all tests, Chrome wiped profile's content almost every time, even if moving from a user profile to another on the same machine. The only case when it was possible to transfer entire profile was when source and target user profiles were both on a domain.
Finally, in every case, passwords do not transfer.

I am guessing even a backup, clean load of the OS and restore of data will lose the whole profile. This will cause us to change a fair amount of procedures as the chrome profile, containing everyone's passwords is a big deal. Since we deal with older people where their most important thing is the password to log in to accounts, is EVERYTHING to them. If we do a job and lose this information, in their mind(which is all that matters) we lost all of their stuff.

We will need to experiment to see if we can we use a program like webpassview on an unbootable system to pull the passwords out of the old profile. This would be an okay solution, I suspect it will not work on an unbootable system
