I have a Dell Vostro 1710 I am going to replace the DC Jack on and I cannot get the hinge cover to pop off, I can get the whole cover up but one corner isn't budging. I do not want to risk breaking it and there isn't any screws I know of that could be holding it. The service manual http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/vos1710/en/sm/html/hingecvr.htm#wp1179936 shows you just using your finger, but this only makes the cover bend in one corner while the rest just popped off.

Also, on a replacement part it doesn't show anything that I can tell would hold it down http://www.blueskyave.com/servlet/the-2374/X803C-Dell-Vostro-1710/Detail

I finally got it off using more force then needed, but where the DC jack sits, the plastic holder that keeps it in place is broken itself. What needs to be done if the plastic on the base itself is broken, just use hot glue?

Yes, usually an epoxy will work as long as its not too badly broken. Otherwise you may need to try and make some kind of brace (i believe podnutz uses a screw through the bottom of the case, and a standoff screw to create support).

Well there is enough left for the jack to stay in place, but the back support is broken which is what made the dc jack broken cause it got loose and they would push it in and I can tell it damaged the cable coming out the back.

And what type of epoxy would work best, the bottom back of the jack is plastic while the rest is metal, but the case is plastic all around.

In regards to the snapped dc bracket.

From what i can gather drilling a hole just behind the jack and using a screw and a standoff to push up against the jack and hold it there(as suggested by dgiles). Not going anywhere that way.
