Dell soprano want boot

I have this dell in, the problem is when you power it up, it tries to boot, fans come on for a second or two, and shuts down, and repeats the same process again, i have stripped the computer down to the processer, fan and motherboard, i am going to test the power supply later, but could it be that, if you need any more info just ask.

Power supply is fine, down to the motherboard then, can't find a replacement or any info on it, it is a foxconn G33M02.

Cheers, just did, power supply is duff, what are the best power supplies out there, i normaly use OCZ because they are good and have a long warrenty on them, and there out of stock on them.

I've used Corsair with pretty good success. OCZ, Antec, and Thermaltake are also all very good.

You should get one of those power supply testers, I got one its pretty handy and it really impresses the customers!

What model and how reliable do you find it? Nothing beats swapping out the PSU to be sure, but I don't carry one to calls unless the symptoms suggest it might be needed. Might carry a tester though, if it's reliable.

I find that it works well for finding a totally dead power supply. But, I have found some power supplies to be bad, but still look good on the tester. It seems that even though the PSU is putting out the right voltages and powergood signal, that it can still be defective and this will not detect that. I find that the best test by far is just swapping in another PSU. I keep a nice OCZ around just for that occasion.

From 11:21 to 14:07 to diagnose a faulty PSU and still he needed help to diganose.

This guy must be seriously cheap.

To diagnose, replace & bill this is a £20 + parts, 30 minute job. Anything more and there's no profit in it for a legitimate business.

@Computergeek1 - use the small profit you've made from this job & put it towards buying buying a decent (£20) PSU tester. For someone who claims to have been 'fixing' computers for 7 years this is very basic diagnostic stuff. From what I read the customer could have been seriously financially burnt by your earlier diagnosis.

I'll probably get a strike for this, but come on, this site is supposed to be for professionals, not Google chancers.

Edit: I've just looked back and apparently I'm on his ignore list (my loss I guess ). Can someone who still panders to this sort of dumbass thread please point the OP towards this. It'll sure be a better investment that those online ££££££ 'gurus' who'll sucker your money only to tell you you only need a basic interest in computers and Google to make it in computer repair.

Sorry, but it's this sort of thread that has really discouraged me from Technibble. Maybe we need a Techbyte for those of us who are a little more grown-up in this 'business'?

You'll probably have your (and mine, for that matter) post deleted by mods, computergeek1 will probably get angry and lash out claiming to be "good at what he does", and we'll repeat the process until those of us that actually know how to diagnose a bad power supply leave the site. I really don't care about strikes....I always try to say the truth, even if some people don't like it.
I'm tired of the people that have no diagnostic skills flat out lying to us and still being able to get help time and time again. Just the other day I told someone to test the ram in the second post.....he claimed he did but never answered which test he ran...oh and thought that a full format is a hard drive diagnosis.....two pages later....on a "whim" he replaced the ram and everything magically worked.

Whatever.....delete my post... encourage these guys to go on not knowing a correct diagnostic procedure....continue coddling them...because, hey....not everyone should have to know that bad power supplies can keep a computer from booting when a few real professionals are willing to instruct you on your job.

Yeah, I'm bitter.

I basically just said that he needs to plan out a real diagnostic procedure, follow it, and then come to us if it throws a curve ball. I still say that this thread wouldn't be necessary (in any regard) if some guys actually thought about HOW to diagnose a computer.

I very much doubt if they were, but it looks like Technibble is now happier to pander to the lowest common denominator rather than to the highest professional standards.

Spam posts should be deleted as too should offensive language be obfuscated, but criticism in the context of a thread should be down to the adult reader to interpret. If the moderators feel the need to delete/edit any post at least have the common decency to identify if and why a post was deleted/edited.

There's moderation and there's censorship - this is censorship.
