Customer brought this laptop in with a hinge problem.

It turns out that the captive nuts or brass ferrules on the palmrest that take the right-hand hinge screws have all broken away from their plastic mounts, so a new palmrest is needed.

My question is - do the part numbers need to match exactly?

The laptop is a Dell Inspiron 17 5758 with service tag HYFJ062 (other numbers I can see are TTYFJ A00)

I can't find anywhere to buy a brand-new one, nor can I find an exact match used one, but did find the following one on eBay Germany:

Dell Inspiron 17 5755/5758/5759 Touchpad Palm Rest GFYHH #267 https://tinyurl.com/y53logu2

Looking at the photo it does seem to be exactly like the one on my bench but will it fit and work?

This is the faulty one:

and this is the one on eBay:

looks the same to me, I would probably take a punt on it, you can always send it back if there is an issue.
Sometimes port layouts can be different, but in this case they do look the same.

What does the sticker on the bottom left of your laptop have written on it ? (the one with the QR code on it)
and the one top right and the one on the touchpad

Sorry for the late reply Jim, just been really busy here but it seems that you may be the ray of sunshine I needed!

The QR code sticker on the touchpad of my palmrest includes the string GFYHH which is good enough for me. Even if it doesn't work, as you said earlier I can always return it.

Thanks mate,

John
