Dell Inspiron 1525 Motherboard Issues ( Battery )

this month so far I have had 5 Dell Inspiron 1525 laptops come in all with the same issues will boot up but will not charge the battery. ( as a seasoned tech I just took them in as DC jack failures) I made a purchase of a 3 pack of DC Jack boards for cheap) well I got my dc jack board replacements earlier last week and did a replacement on 2 of the laptops and found that this did not fix the issue, I google the symptoms and find that this has been going on since 2010 it has to do with an ID chip on the motherboard that fails and the easiest remedy is to get an external charger for the battery ( which is stupid and pointless IMO )

I did the BIOS update on all of them, as suggested and it did not change anything.

So my question is why did they all decide to come in this month (do they have TTL's on them or what? ) has anyone found a work around or a cheap fix for this issue.

Sadly my mother has the same laptop and I have experienced the same issues you have spoken of. It sucks but for her it's good enough.

There 3 possible reasons for this issue:
1) power supply is faulty
2) battery is dead
3) power jack board is damaged. You may have noticed a thin pin inside the jack. It is an ID pin. Often the ID signal from charger does not get to the board due reason (1) or (3). I fixed the issue by soldering a wire between power jack ID pin and connector. See the picture.

And before using soldering iron, use multimeter for the continuity test of the circuit.

I assume no responsibility for the results. So you do it at your own risk.

I've had bad experiences with Dell Power Adapters. In my experience they are something that is likely to fail on Dell Computers. Both my sister and my wife had similar Dell Inspiron computers and they both had failed power adapters. We are Dell / Apple Shop here and we have had at least one failed power adapter.
