Deadly snowstorm in northern US

I'm watching it, 6' for sure in some places and more to come. WOW.

Most I've ever seen in my life was 31" on Halloween in 1991. Shut down Minnesota pretty much. I have never seen the snow in the middle of the streets so high, some were as high as 2nd story buildings. Amazing.

A friend of mine that also does IT consulting for SMBs...yeah he's up in that area. Buffalo NY...they're sorta used to multiple feet of snow every winter, but this one...wowzers!

Another friend of mine posted yesterday on FB that her mom (which still lives up there)...the snow already passed the windows of her house. Nothing to look at out the windows!

I saw the BBC news article, and then contacted a friend who lives just north of Buffalo in Tonawanda. Her replay was "Most of the snow is in the southtowns. We got some some, but not like they got. We're used to it, but it still sucks ****!!"

Rather have snow than freezing rain though... I90, freezing rain... Not nice to drive in!!!

We get lake effect snows being so close to Lake Michigan here. But we have done alright. Not a lot of snow where I am at.

We have had a problem with some really slick roads. Black ice is just killer here. I missed an oak tree by inches the other day  I hate those slow slides you cannot do anything about. But this was out in the country.

Yeah, the main photo on the BBC site is quite something. I mean, don't get me wrong, I've seen pretty thick snow before, but that.....

You feel for those families that have lost loved ones though.

In reference to Andys comment, at least with snow, you've got some traction. I personally hate driving in winter conditions, will do anything to avoid it if I can.

I guess those of you across the pond from the UK will be so used to bad conditions in the winter, that I bet you probably laugh at us whinging over in the UK.

This storm reminded me of the Snow Storm of 1992 in Moncton, NB where they got about 162cm (almost 64 inches). Living in Fredericton, I was disappointed that we didn't even get enough to get a day off of school, if I recall correctly.

My new tires are stuck in Buffalo because of the storm. Where I'm located we don't have a major accumulation.

You should have purchased a better brand or an all-season tire then! Sorry, couldn't resist! ;):D

Heh

On a side note I have never put enough miles on a vehicle to warrant new tires. Quite frankly owning a vehicle is stupid expensive.

OMG!! That is SO true!!! I used to fly into Syracuse and grab a car from there, before seeing friends in Utica and then on into Buffalo. Seeing 12 feet of snowfall in one day was nothing!

Here... we see a twelfth of an inch, and it severely messes up the country! I mean, the whole country comes to a standstill!!

On one trip to the US, I ended up on a Trailways bus from Utica to NYC. 4 inches of packed ice on I-90, and still the driver was exceeding the speed limit!!

Seriously, we have no idea!!
