Hello,

I'm trying to see how other techs accomplish this task, using a crossover cable to run a peer to peer data transfer, and I want to see if I can pick up any tips or help.

Any ideas or suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks,

There isn't a lot to it. You hook them up, give them fixed IPs in the same range and set up a workgroup and shares. Same as any small network. Copy over your data et voila.

You mostly won't require a crossover cable. The vast majority of NIC's now automatically recognise what kind of device they are connected to an configure themselves automatically i.e. a standard 586B patch will do the job.

Thanks for the reply,

This is what I had in mind. I appreciate the information. This is the method I'm trying to teach to a couple of techs that have never tried it before.

Crossover?

I have not used a crossover cable in 9+ years

I just bot to PenDriveLinux, connect the box to my network, copy needed files to my file server

I never plug anything but a linux PC or a guaranteed clean windows os (a fresh install)
