Hi, everyone I have just put together a new computer I'm having a problem getting the front USB 3.0 ports to work with an Asus Z97-A motherboard the computer case is Corsair Carbide 330R I have connected the USB cable from the case to the motherboard but every time I plug something in Windows is just not recognizing it I have also installed all of the drivers that came with the motherboard. When I plug my USB flash drive in it says USB device not recognised one of the devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned. I haven't tested it yet with another motherboard maybe It's some kind of driver issue I'm just not sure. I need a little help from the community.

Thanks,
Peter.

Just give the front USB 3.0 connector a quick check. I've found on some boards the connector is heavy and doesn't always stay put, especially if you are routing wires it's easy to bump.

Thinking about this issue, I think I may purchase some cheap USB headers just for testing. You can find on Amazon and eBay headers you can plug in for testing. If the headers work, the case's front USB ports are defective. If the headers fail, then likely a board issue.

Hi, all of the back USB ports are working fine with my flash drive.
So that to me sounds like the drivers are in for the USB3.0 ports (Unless they have used a different controller for the front panel connector) based on that it could be the motherboard connector or the front ports are faulty.

Does the Corsair case use a 20 pin cable between the mobo and USB ports? Ensure it's not installed backwards although I believe that the connector on the mobo is keyed.

Go to ASUS support page and verify that the latest USB drivers are installed. Also check the chipset drivers. Some mobo's have a "speed boost" feature for USB 3.1 so that might need to be installed.

I just had a similar issue with the front USB 3.0 ports not being recognized and the rear USB 3.0 ports on the I/O panel were fine. It turned out that the client had a wireless backlit keyboard plugged into the front port to charge. It would charge the kybd as designed but prevented the empty ports from recognizing a flash drive until it was unplugged. I wasted time reinstalling drivers until the light bulb in my head lit up. This won't help you but it's good to know.

Hi, just letting everyone know I have now fixed the problem turns out I had installed the USB cable backwards I feel stupid but hey we all make mistakes.
