Probably not the best thing to ask on Technibble, but hey... A Playstation 3 is a Computer based piece of Hardware too.

By the way, yes... This is my own Console. But I guess even Techies such as us need their own personal help once in a while.

Here I go. About a week ago I purchased a second hand Playstation 3, played it, working fine and it's an awesome console. But then I saw dust flying out from it's backside every time I started it up. So I thought HEY, clean it out and new Thermal Paste it shall be, and it all went according to plan.

But wait... after about a week is up, after the PS3 is turned on for about 5 minutes, then fan goes into freakin' overdrive and tries to fly off into outer space. I've opened it up again and the Themal Paste is making good contact, and I replaced it again to no avail, same problem.

Can any professional Console repairsmen give input on this? I mean I've fixed hundreds of Xbox 360's and now I have one PS3 beating me :(

In the case of a computer. This would most definitely indicate that the heatsink
is not making contact.
I've never taking one of these apart before but you need to double check that
there is good contact. Also check that you don't have too much of the paste on there as that can cause the same effect.

:)
