Computer crashes/freezes [HELP]

Hello,

I have just re-install my copy of windows xp on to my computer, I have done this many times so that I have a new installation on the computer.

But my problem is now when I start to play games on the computer these games always freeze and crash, before I did the installation of windows xp all the games worked.

Could this be that I have not install some software which means that’s the computer will not run the games correct thus causing it to crash?

There area few reasons that can cause this. Seeing as you mentioned that it was the game that froze and crashed rather than all of your Windows. Then I would saying this is probably a video issue of some sort.

Since you have formatted and it worked before the format it wouldnt be video hardware so it is most likely software. Be sure to get the latest copy of DirectX and the latest copy of your video cards drivers, this should fix the problem. However, in some cases its the new drivers that are the problem which cause older games (designed to work on your older drivers) to freeze and crash. If the newest drivers dont work try some of the older ones.

It might be worth looking to see if the game has any patches released which fixed issues with the CD version (which you would have if you just formatted).

Hello,

Well I am glad to report that this is no longer a problem for me! I have just downgrade one of my drivers and the game is now playing without crashing which I am very pleased about.

I will now have to keep the downgrade and would now not be alble to upgrade unless I don’t want to play the game.

Thank again

glad to hear that..but im wondering why did downgrading a driver would solve the problem..anyone knows that?..i wanted to know answer..hmm..strange..

Hi,

I think is was because I was wanting to play quit a old game that my computer was too good for the game, I am not quit sure but it all works now! So their may have been a problem with the driver software?

Downgrading the drivers to solve a problem isn't all that uncommon - especially with graphical cards. The nVidias had problems that were best fixed by taking a few steps back with Detonators around versions 44.xx, the ATis had the same with the 4.2 series nearly 2 years ago. It just happens that the drivers work on the whole, but inadvertently break a couple of games.

Okay well this might be a dumb question, but, you reinstalled your video drivers right? You didn't just install XP and assume since it was running 32 bit color at the proper res that you were off to the races right?

Goto display properties and check if it shows your ACTUAL video card. (and sound card etc.)

Hi,

The problem has been fixed1 I cleaned out my heat sink and also changed my Psu and it has not crashed once yet.

The problem is fixed!
