Hiya, gang,

I'm looking for a good collection (or collections) of codecs, especially for use in new installs, that will cover most of the AV formats with minimal headaches. I've used several, but it usually takes me a while to get a machine to play nice with all of the various types of files.

Thanks!

Sounds good, thanks! It's been a while since I've had to install them, but I remember that that was the one that solved most of my problems before. It's now a permanent resident of my flash drive :)

Second the K-Lite. All the codecs you could possibly need and plenty of other nice proggies available for free in the afterdawn.com downloads section. With a codec pack and Media Player Classic (don't confuse with WMP) you can watch or play just about any file type. I can't tell you how many times I've heard "but i was able to play DVD's before you formatted" its easier to just install than explain.

ffdshow tryouts is the best in my opinion. Keep in mind, that if any of your customers use iTunes, the QT Alternative breaks things pretty hard...

I found codec packs to not work for me I just go and download them individualy though there was one but I would have to look it up agian I know it includes/uses ffdshow

KMPlayer and VLC seem to work fine for me without any additional codec's, might be worth a look as they seem to have a lot of options... then again many people don't like options especially if you are doing work for them (simpler the better for the home user;)).

I like the newest version, well last version I used, of VLC it is fainally where it needs to be or atleast much more on track. I just wish things besides WMP would work with my media center remote or WMP would have built in codecs or some kind of auto download and installer, one that works I mean, for it.
