Are there any "Clean" viruses (Purely for testing and wouldn't actually do anything illegal or steal files ect) that the tech community have created to well, practice on a virtual computer? Please tell me more. It sounds like an interesting thing to do on a lazy Sunday...

The only "clean" virus is Eicar.

You want to set up a VM and search the forum for information about getting infected on purpose. Infect your VM, clean it manually, and scan to check your work. Reset the VM...lather...rinse...repeat.

I image every PC with true image as a backup before i begin a repair. If a PC is badly infected then i keep the image, restore to a virtual PC and then use that as a test bed for apps.

Maybe I'm just grumpy this morning but couldn't/shouldn't we just close these constantly repeated topics with a comment to use search.

I don't mean to be rude to the poster and once in a hurry I did the same thing but realised my error and apologised. But there are certain topics that keep coming up (data recovery tools, practice viruses etc). Hell even close the topic with a link to the standard thread, might be more polite. But we end up having the same conversation over and over. I've done it as well, joined in mid convo only to have the sinking feeling of deja vu.

Perhaps I should get coffee, that might degrumpify me.
