Classic Shell Puzzle

When I migrate users from old XP/Vista etc machines over to Win 8.1, I often set them up with Classic Shell to ease the transitional pain. For the first time, I now have a user who wants Win 8.1's touch-screen facilities enabled, but also wants the convenience of using Classic Shell and I cannot get the two to work in harmony. If I uninstall CS, touch-screen works fine, but if I install it - no dice. What's worse, the 'Pen and Touch' options are removed from the Control Panel when CS is installed. I checked the Mobility Centre settings and they are all as should be, everything enabled, but the only way to restore Pen and Touch seems to be to get rid of Classic Shell. I've also checked through the various options classic shell offers in its configuration area, but I can't find this mentioned there.

So, my question is: Is this just how life is (That is, does Classic Shell mirror earlier incarnations of Windows so faithfully that it actively removes this option) or is there some way round this that I am just too dim to figure out? I was going to post this in the Classic Shell forums, but they seem to be down right now. Any help appreciated.

I install Classic Shell frequently too, for the same reasons, although I haven't used it in that scenario yet, so I'm probably not going to be able to offer much in the way of help.

Classic Shell is immensely configurable though; are you sure you have the latest version installed. I know there have been regular updates and improvements to the software. Also, I assume you've enabled 'all settings' (rather than 'basic settings')?

Thanks for the quick reply. Yes, got the latest version and had a good hunt through 'all settings'. Trouble is, my client is not stupid, but he is old, and he's never going to get his head round Win 8.1 in a million years. If I can't rig this up somehow, I can hear the phone ringing ten times a day for the next six months...!

Most of those programs cost less than $20 USD. If they are too cheap to fork that over, then you really want to reconsider them as a customer. If a $20 bill could make me happy, I'll consider that a good day.

I wouldn't say they were cheap - just old and poor. In any case, I won't be buying anything until I can find out for definite whether or not Classic Shell can be induced to behave itself. I'll post back here if I ever find an answer to that!

Just to set everyone's mind at rest about Classic Shell - I've now found out that it helps a lot if you tell the customer to stop pulling the USB cord out of the back of his monitor...!
