Card processing UK

Been looking through the various threads for processing cards but most of the suggestions seem to be for US based businesses.

Anyone from the UK able to recommend a product?

I know a guy from First Data Merchant Solutions they supply all the big banks with their terminals and such.

I know they do
counter terminals
Mobile terminals
Virtual terminals

I'm not really finding the need for one. At the moment people either pay cash, cheque or Paypal via my website, no Paypal account needed.

we use first data merchant solutions and they have been pretty good so far. no issues to return. We have 2 accounts with them. one for our shop and one for our website.

I do cheque, cash and bank details for an online transfer.

Do you get many people using PayPal Martyn? How much do they take off of each transfer? I presume they can use credit card or debit card?

This is something I have been looking into recently. I have been trying to get into the remote market far more. By doing this, I needed the facility of processing db / cr cards at my end on a terminal.

I contacted my business bank. These are their charges
Rental of the machine £39.99 pr month
Setup fee £49.00
Credit cards 2.9%
db cards 39p

I contacted 2 other companies. (12 month contract)
Rental £20.00 pr month
Credit 1.6%
Db 25p

Another the rental depended on the length of contract. It was either a 2,3 or 4 yr)
Obviously the longer the contract the cheaper the rental.
But for the 2 yr contract the rental was £22.99
credit 1.19%
db 16p

In all cases, the money would be in your bank the following working day.

I have all the contact details of the above 2 companies if anyone is interested, though it may take me some time to locate them again lol.

If you could PM the contact details that would be very much appreciated, I'll give him a buzz to find out. I'll let you know how we get on (we're looking for a virtual terminal really, like others have mentioned for mainly remote work and onsite jobs).

@cadishead - that 12 month deal is the same one we're looking at right now, its just the monthly costs were more than I was expecting from the impressions I got in the other threads. Maybe that's just the good old UK though

We use PayPoint.net though no terminal. If you're an FSB member there are a couple of deals available with other providers

Hardly any but I got one today. I was about 10 minutes from home and by the time I got home he'd sent it and I got the email. It's certainly a good option as no Paypal account is required. I get about 60% cash, 38% cheques and 2% Paypal. I'm surprised there are still a lot of cheques but then I have a lot of elderly clients in the villages.

In the UK, there WERE going to ditch cheques, thankfully that ridiculous idea has been shelved.

I use a PayPal button on my website, who take £1.80 per transaction, which isn't too bad.

The banks are still going to scrap cheques once they have worked.out an alternative. Cheque Guarantee cards ceased to be relevant last month - so the process has started.

I use cheques , cash and PayPal. Cheques are still the main way of paying. People in this part of the country don't seem to keep much cash in the house. Card payments would be good to look into but since my business is mobile I assume I would need to do it through my phone. The problem with that is that phone coverage is poor in this part of the country. 3g coverage is rare and in a lot of customers houses I don't even get a phone signal.

Mind you that is the least of my problems at present. People don't seem to want their computers mended at present !!
