Can't Open DocX files

Have a windows 7 machine with office 2007 on it. Will not open docx files correctly. It does open them but with extra characters in doc. Like formatting symbols. The icon also does not show word icon. They are just plain white icons. Repaired office. no fix. default program is word. Thanks for any help you can offer.

You need to get the Compatibility Pack for Office 2007.

And perhaps toggle "off" the display paragraph marks/formatting button.

Repair the windows icon cache to fix the white icons and make sure that it is the default program for all office files. Turn off paragraph icon.

Office compatibility fix should not be needed for 2007.

Odd how I read "2007", typed "2007", but the entire time I was thinking "2003".
I'm too damned stressed today.
