Have a bit of an issue with a Canon C3830i printer.

Has a connection issue between the iMac desktop and the Canon printer. Canon technicians have checked over the Canon software/firmware etc and have found no fault. The settings on the computer appear to be correct and the printer is still able to scan to email.
The printer is connected to the network by ethernet cable.
The printer will only print if I reboot it but will quickly 'forget' and the next time I print the print dialogue box says 'the printer is not responding'.

Has anyone came accross this issue or any suggestions. Thanks

Only prints if you reboot the printer? (Not reboot the Mac)
What iMac is it - M1, Intel?
What macOS version are you running?
Prints OK from other Macs?
Prints OK from Windows machines?
What else is on the network?
Have you tried rebooting router?

Latest UFR driver is our "go to" for the larger imageRunner models...it's sorta Canons equiv of the HP Universal Print driver.
Usually IP printing can work fine across subnets...but that also depends on how the network is set up, specifically the routing on the LAN side of the router. There's Apples printer discovery service...which...probably won't work best when you're on the different subnet. Versus...if you add it manually as an IP printer via the manual method of adding a printer in Macs...which is more likely to work fine on different subnets.
