It is -50 here can't get warm have heaters cranked up to 80 but still freezing when i finally retire i am going to move somewhere where its warm all year.

I mentioned it elsewhere our high is supposed to be -12 on Wednesday. It was -23 the other morning and supposed to be colder tomorrow and Wednesday night. -50 is dangerous cold. My house cracks, snaps and pops when it get in the -25 and below range. Couldn't imagine -50.

I've already told a couple places that I'm working from home and not leaving the house Wednesday and Thursday.

Discovered today just why I haven't been able to use my windshield washers - the fluid's frozen solid. I was planning to pump out the -20 stuff that I thought was in there into a gallon jug or two, then refill with -25. Guess that plan's out the window.

Not too thrilled with the place I last got the oil changed at either, I'm guessing that what they put in was basically blue water.

Here in Arkansas it's not bad. My 1978 Yugo cranked right up. The biggest problem I had is we had a little wind and it blow one of the stakes out from my tent. (P.S. - my tent has a vaulted ceiling too). I agree with Saphirescales about single pane windows - that's why my tent doesn't have any windows.

I was thinking I might move in with Saphirescales if he would let me, but I'm not sure if the old Yugo will make it that far. But if it does I would let Saphirescales borrow it since it's running boards work perfect.

It did hit freezing yesterday between the snow in the morning (as it warmed) and the snow in the afternoon (as it cooled again) and I was able to punch a siphon tube through the sheet of ice and siphon out the fluid, then replace with the -25 stuff. Washers working later in the afternoon, and antifreeze added since the overflow tank was empty when I checked it.

Clearly I need a new place to take the car for routine work. Checking fluids and tire pressures seems like a bare minimum.

I think he's quoting Wind chill / "Feels like" values, and in Centigrade. -50C equals -58F.

Hmmm.... Not so sure. It's -26F here right now and -44F a bit further up north in Minnesota this morning. These are actuals, not wind chills..... I think our windchill is -56F right now.

Once it gets to a point of being stupid cold I stop checking the temp it all feels the same

Weather Underground says it's -14 here right now and that's about as high as it's going to get today. Guess I could run out, but frankly we have food in the house and I have way more than enough work to keep me busy. Also, I neglected to hook my car up to a trickle charger last night - it's a pretty new battery and would probably start with no problems, but why bother?

I wouldn't be surprised if this was a somewhat busy day for delivery people though. As a side note, if you use Instacart, tip the delivery person in cash if you can - apparently they reduce the amount they pay drivers by the amount of tips, so delivery people can have a consistent idea how much they're going to be making (as little as Instacart can get away with paying them).

Edit: comments on that thread indicate that doordash may do the same thing. All tips go to the driver, but unless you're tipping more than the driver would normally get they first go to reduce how much doordash-the-company pays the driver.
