Hey Guys,

With the economy the way it has been. I'm wonder what other areas you guys have been adding to your business.

For example, I've branched out in Audio Visual setup, Ipod Repair, Video Game Console Repair.

So what other things are you all doing out there : )

In the past couple years, we've become resellers for MozyPro, started offering web hosting via a reseller account, and established a subcontractor relationship with a web designer so that we can offer web design. None of these are services which we push or advertise to the general public, but are value-added services that we suggest to our existing clients when we see a need.

I branched out into insurance claims on electronics, big money, takes a while to get paid put in price sheets with fire/flood restore companies in your area.

I would be interested finding out how this works. Care to throw me a bone?

You might look into security systems, VOIP, or satellite TV (or satellite internet). Check with the local internet providers and see if they need help anywhere.

or satellite TV (or satellite internet).

There is a lot of money to made in selling satellite TV, and satellite Internet.

However, Satellite TV is a major PITA. Before venturing down that avenue, really really really consider that.

Skyway USA, if it works well in your area has a nice dealer program.
Hughesnet is another that you can get hooked up with, youll want to sign up with perfect 10 if you want to sell their service.

Wildblue, atleast in this area is one of the worst services to have. Ide look into that well before you start selling their service.

All satellite internets, with the exception of Skyway USA, require you to be FCC certified(which they can train you) before they allow you to sell their service, on account of the two way systems.

Ive had quite a bit of experience in the Data Sat field, feel free to MSG me if you are looking for info.

We are a CCTV/voice/data company first and foremost. With the economy the way it is these days everyone seems to need cameras/alarms(especially local businesses).

We are backed up for a good month with CCTV installs and seem to keep selling jobs. We dont advertise either. Its just about who you know.

Some great ideas there . I think home theatre is a definite good idea as a sub business.

Hosting I've started doing is a good way to earn some good passive income. The other ones I've come across are printer repair which I've started to do , just little things like offering a printer service for a fixed price on way to get you in the door.

Another one is reselling internet services.

What other ones do people have out there ?

Nothing new for me. I do contract IT jobs for a national group, every so often mostly installing Cisco routers in stores and government buildings. Been a contractor for a DSL & landline phone company for 8 years now. It pads the income line when times are slow (like right now). Can be enjoyable, learning how copper pairs make from the central office to the customer premise, how to troubleshoot copper pair issues, seeing the behind the scenes in a central office, etc. Other times not so enjoyable like going into a hoarder's home or apartment, walking the mine field of dog poo, etc.

An interesting one I saw a local computer/IT shop do for extra income was to host a digital fingerprinting machine in their store. Drives new people into their store who need to get their fingerprints taken for some sort of work related security screening, and they make a few extra bucks from it. I thought it was a novel idea.

I saw another one who was a UPS drop-off point / photocopy shop.

Going to hit the marketing hard for outdoor wireless. Such as marinas, campgrounds, and other special needs long distance wireless shots.

Looks like I just got into the long distance wireless myself:

Also the town I live in grows from under 1,000 to over 10,000 for one weekend a year during a summer festival. A big complaint is the cell towers are all over loaded and no one can get a signal. Thinking about setting up a paid hotspot to cover the area, but I am not sure if ubiquiti is up to handling that kind of load or it might take a few too many radios to justify the cost for only one weekend a year.

I'm currently working as an installation technician for a pay tv provider. A lot of our customers ask for things like home audio installation, tv wall-mounts, etc.

It's pretty common to see people looking for help getting a simple VCR (yes, I said vcr) working. There may be some room in the direction of A/V installation.

I branched out to doing phone and tablet repairs. Not my happiest moment but it help bring in customers. I already do custom builds, installations, repairs, networking and consulting. Lol one man army.
